I acknowledge it feels very weird , kinda depressing, to hear "islamists" for those who are bad humans and for their bad deeds a giant community is kinda held responsible. A common man doesnt give a very deep thinking so if they keep on hearing "islamists", at one stage they'll believe its the synonym of terrorists etc.
However, if these morons stop doing fierce acts on the name of our religion, it would lessen the chances of being called out like that. Now i know one can argue that right now, christians/jews/hindus/monks all of these are also involved in mass killing on the name of religion but i think the mass scale of it happening on the name of Islam, from middle east to Africa, is far greater than rest of the religions.

"Lone wolf" is a much better term than Islamist. Oh but it is used only for non-muslim white males.

You're right. It is our responsibility to challenge it.
The problem is that those using such terminology are usually narrow-minded"sheeple" who have preconceived notions and are easily influenced by hate/fear-mongering so it becomes really difficult to educate them or reason with them.
