Turkey is more secular in the sense that it doesn't ban beliefs like Malaysia. Did you know Malaysia has "banned" shiiaism since 1996? Erdogan's islamism is more the type of conservatives you find in the west, unlike the pakistani, saudi, or irani kind in our world.

This. Minus the changing the channel. I run into this type of stuff mostly in the comments section of news stories. So I pretty much troll the anti-Muslim posters by posting pro-Muslim stuff.

Right that is why he over turned a ban on the Hijab. Very much like conservatives in the West correct? Here is the simple thing. Erdogan himself and the AKP themselves do not define themselves as a secular party. They have made that extremely clear. The state maybe secular. The government is not. The degrees of secularism are irrelevant in the manner in which the party that is in charge describes themselves.
It should be noted that Erdogan himself hates the term Islamist and does not like to be defined by it.

That is one very freaking large definition.
And intentional no doubt. Special interests are served in defining the War On Terror broadly enough to wage as needed. Whether that's clauses in the Patriot Act, the definition of a terrorist outfit, or the recently updated AUMF (Authorization for use of Military Force against Terrorists). Keeping the 'enemy' vague and broadly defined affords more legal loopholes and allows you to target virtually anyone. Language is tied to power and politics; the way we argue and frame an argument determines the outcome. It's no wonder then that this is a War of Language before anything else.

10 years Afghanistan and no peace in sight. Mass destruction weapons in Iraq, none found. Drone Attacks, discovered and undiscovered CIA jails, Guantanamo, a friend of mine from the University being locked up by the U.S. Troops for being a suspected suicide bomber. Alhamdolillah he is free. Shall I continue?
The funny thing is, we are playing these games. Calling ourselves westernized and modern!
