islamic sects

Im sunni, and have always believed that there are only the following sects within islam: sunni, shia, whabi and ehmdi(spelling?..and i know many ppl dnt consider this sect as islamic..b4 anyone starts..)

Now whilst conversating with one of my mates yesterday, the topic of sects within sects came up…im not sure how to word this correctly as im more of a talker than typer…but they told me that within the sect of sunni there are 4 different sects..i.e people who beleive in hatams and people who dont..is this true? and if so how many different sects are there altogether?

I apologise to anybody reading who thinks this is a stupid question, but i usually ask my dad this kinda stuff and today he is having trouble explaining and we dont have any books abt this in our home library..(yeh i know..its need upgrading!)

thanks in advance

i'll make it easy for you.. it's called daiRh eent kee masjid..

the trouble with Islam is that it's no longer Islam.. it's just a bunch of sects.. rather than allow freedom of thought and discussion and interpretation and let logic prevail, Muslims have learnt to just obey scholars blindly and create a group behind them rather than gravitate towards understanding Islam as a whole and try and stay together.

Now your scholar may be as good/bad as mine.. so what to do.. divide Islam into 'madhabs' as they choose to call it. so we can both afford to be Muslims while believing and practising differently according to what our scholar(s) of choice agree upon.

The majority thus gets away with being the 'most influential' gang of Muslims and their version then prevails over others.. hence even if a smaller group is on the right track.. the majority 'madhab' represents the religion.

erm..thanks....maybes il try google as im still not understanding...thankyou for ur explanation though...i know where to begin my search...

In sunni islam the four traditional schools of thought are not considered sects.

They dont really differ in the fundamentals of faith but differ in fiqh issues based on their own interpretation of the Quran and sunnah.

The following (unbiased) links from Wikipedia give a very brief intro.

Sunni Islam

Madhabs

3:103 And hold fast, all together, by the ROPE which Allah (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves; and remember with gratitude Allah's favour on you; for ye were enemies and He joined your hearts in love, so that by His Grace, ye became brethren; and ye were on the brink of the pit of Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus doth Allah make His Signs clear to you: That ye may be guided.

As I stated many a time, the Prophet SAW, Sahaaba, Ta'bayeen were not Sunni, Shia, Wahabai, Ahmedy, Deobandi, Brailvi, Naqshbandi, Bora etc etc etc.

A Muslim is a Muslim.

And before someone quotes A'Hadeeth claiming the 73 different sect issue, bear in mind it's meaning. 'There WILL be 73 different sects out of which only one will go to heaven'

Not to go out and physically make them?

Thank You..these links were really helpful
