Islamic schools in Toronto

Does anyone here know any Islamic schools in the Greater Toronto Area? Any guppies attending Islamic schools? Any comments on them? And I’m talking about full-time Islamic schools, those that offer both Islamic subjects (Arabic, Quran etc.) as well as the regular Ontario curriculum.

Re: Islamic schools in Toronto

There is one in Ajax. Just try to avoid the bad students there. :)

Re: Islamic schools in Toronto

^^ Yes I know that one, they have 2 schools here in Mississauga (where I live)... have you been there? How are they?

Re: Islamic schools in Toronto

there's a bunch in toronto. pratically every neighbourhood has an islamic school.

what area are you looking in specifically? are there certain criteria that the school should have? boys only, girls only, elementary, high school, etc.

might be able to help you out then :)

Re: Islamic schools in Toronto

its the WORST school ever…yeah i went to check it out cuz i was goin there but its worst than a public school:hehe:
yeah there 2 elementar ad highschool

Re: Islamic schools in Toronto

here’s a list of some schools
don’t know if it’s a complete list, but at least it’s a start.

like i said, it depends on what area you’re in and what grade you’re looking for

Re: Islamic schools in Toronto

^^ High school… grade 9 for now. Cuz I believe that in public high schools the environment makes it pretty hard for a student to concentrate on his studies (not to mention the drugs and stuff), plus the teacher-student bond isn’t as strong as it would be in a pvt. school–I prefer Islamic schools for their environment; although I wouldn’t have very much a problem going to a non-Islamic pvt. school (as long as they don’t mandate studying Christianity), Islamic schools are always the No. 1 choice. And by the way I want a standard recognized school that offers both Islamic and regular courses (no madrassahs)… I’ve heard that Arabic or Islamic Studies can earn you additional credits as well. I didn’t check out the list… I know there are tons of them in GTA, but I want to know what kind of reputations do they have. I was considering ISNA High but then there are some transportation problems, oh yes plz do tell me if any Islamic schools have their own pick-n-drop services… any thoughts? :konfused:

Re: Islamic schools in Toronto

I've never studied at an Islamic school..but from wut I hear...most of the kids there..are the ones that are out of control...and as a last resort..their parents' have sent them to the islamic school...they do teach about islam..in a better environment...but most of the kids are still as messed up..or maybe more...from anywhere esle....again...this is wut I've heard...not my personal experience...

Re: Islamic schools in Toronto

^^ There are kids like that more or less everywhere... and by the way, not all parents who consider sending their kids to Islamic schools (including mine) choose it as a last resort... there are some who do send their kids to islamic schools as a last resort, but I'm not sure how many of them are out there. As far as I know most people who send their kids to Islamic schools do so so that their kids can be raised in a good environment and are worked better on by their teachers. Plus I came here (Canada) from Dubai, so an Islamic school here would basically mean like a normal school there (apart from the mandation of hijab for girls).

Re: Islamic schools in Toronto

Yep, that's what I said about the school in Ajax.

Did you check the site? http://www.darululoom.ca/

Re: Islamic schools in Toronto

why the jazz would you want to go to an Islamic school? I was never mullarized, and I turned out fine.

Re: Islamic schools in Toronto

^ Because some parents propel their insecurities as Muslims on to their children. They feel putting their kids around muslims will save them from the filth of public schools. That their children should not grow up free to pick and chose who they associate with, rather should be moulded into inclusive communities and self ostracized from the world beyond their fences. They want their children to grow up ignorant of the world that surrounds them. Talk to muslim kids. Learn about muslim kids. Be friends with muslim kids. Lets see where that gets you in the real world. The last time I checked there arent many businesses that hire only muslims.

If you worry your kid will do drugs and have sex in high school, the problem is not with the public schools - the problem is with you. What you really want, is not an Islamic school, but someone to do a better job parenting your child.

Re: Islamic schools in Toronto

Is that aimed at me?

Finding a mullah centre was not an aim of mine. Religion is a minor part of my personality, just a heritage thing really.

Re: Islamic schools in Toronto

^^ As if we care? No offence bud, but you sound like a stereotypical-ABCD-come-true.

Dude, anyone who has the internet and TV at home and goes out to do the grocery knows how the world works... it's ridiculous to suggest that just because someone goes to an Islamic school they don't know how the world works; and by the way, the last time I checked, Islamic schools do tell their students what goes on in public schools and how to avoid it, so even if a guy studying in an Islamic school has to haul over to a public school for some reason they will know what to do and what not to do... well, there always can be schools who just choose to ignore the dark side of the world and keep their students oblivious of it, but I don't think many good Islamic schools do that; it sounds like only madressas would do so. Well, many Islamic schools also have spoilt kids (for whom an Islamic school is like a rehab), but they are controlled in class. And then proper parenting is mandatory for a well brought-up person regardless whether he's in an Islamic school or public.

So... any more experiences from Islamic schools?

Re: Islamic schools in Toronto

if you're keen on sending your kids to an islamic school, then go for it. there's some really good ones out there that teach according to the ontario cirriculum as well as teaching arabic and islamic studies. and they teach arabic as a language, not as something you learn just so that you can read the Qu'ran.

if you're looking for a high school, there's one in scarborough called the madinatul-uloom. i believe they have pick up and drop off services.

the only thing with islamic schools, besides the education, is that children are taught to respect elders and behave with respect towards the other gender. but in the end, kids will be kids. they're still gonna learn how to swear from their friends and learn all those other things you don't want 'em too. just walk down the hallways of an islamic school one day, and you'll be quite surprised :p

i personally think if a child isn't taught the basic foundation of his/her religion at home, then sending a child to an islamic school isn't going to accomplish much. you can send your child to a public school and they can turn out just fine - just depends on how you raise 'em :)
