Quraysh or Quraish (Arabic: قريش, Qurayš; other transliterations include "Quresh", "Qurrish", "Qurish", "Qirsh", "Quraysh", "Qureshi", "Koreish" and "Coreish") was the dominant tribe of Mecca upon the appearance of the religion of Islam. It was the tribe to which the Islamic prophet Muhammad belonged, as well as the tribe that led the initial opposition to the spread of Islam in the Arabian Peninsula. The tribe of quraish still exists to present day in many parts of western and central Arabia.

Quraish is derived from ( قرش). i.e., collected from here and there and attached one part of it to another. the Quraish were so called because one of their ancestors Qussay bin Kilab bin Nadr had prevailed upon them to migrate from all parts of Arabia where they had lived a scattered life and to settle in Mecca. of banu Kananah, only the progeny of Nadr settled in Mecca and as they were a small group, they were called Quraish means a small group gathered from here and there

here what i read in the book. **Quresh **is nick of Fehar bin Malik and his generation r called ‘Quresh’ or ‘Qureshi’. Fehar bin Malik is called ‘Quresh’ b’coz ‘Quresh’ is a very strong animal which eats other sea animals. This animal is always up to other animal mean its always more powerful compairing to others sea animal. As Fehar bin Malik was famous due to his braveness. This is b’coz arab pplz started calling him ‘Quresh’. Shamrakh bin Umar Hameri (an arab poet) mentioned in his poetry too. [Ref. Zarqani Ali Almuwahib Jild No. 1 Page 76].
