According to the national newspapers, BAE Systems is under investigation for fraud involving, surprise surprise, Saudi princes. BAE is one of the biggest defense contractors, practically running the Saudi Airforce. One the recent reports highlighted how, in the event of the collapse of Saudi regime, the UK Government is liable for paying out $1 billion or more to BAE. Simply put, it is the taxpayers money, that will end up paying for these international scams.
It’s already happening in Iraq, where big defense contractors are ‘insured’ by the Government, and therefore essentially by the tax-payers money.
My question is, in these cases (and plenty more similar cases), isn’t it an Islamic duty to not pay taxes to the Government in question if our money ends up being used unjustly?
Or maybe we as a Muslim Community should lobby the Gov. for being able to specify exactly where our taxes end up?
