Boogey man. I do not think the current world events are as organic as they are made out to be. See how quick world powers were to attack Iraq which posed zero threat and everyone is mum on a seemingly far far more dangerous threat. It’s very telling to see the reactions.
Side-effects of overly grown one-sided new world (dis)order. There is a lot of dictation pushed from one country to many. On the top of it events like charlie hebdo or IS threat give avengers an opportunity to impose the strict measures that they always wanted to, but couldnt due to absence of excuse. Now there is no opposition to it from left-wing so its just a open ground.
Its not smoke and mirrors.. just opportunistic. Those in power will do anything to grab more of it. This islamic extremism presents a perfect opportunity. Not sure who said it, “Liberty dies not with a bang, but a whimper”. People that champion these liberties in the west gladly give them up for a bit of apparent security. Everyone is busy exercising their free speech rights, while the government is slowly usurping all other rights.
Also there is no surprise in all these countries enacting similar/same laws. They are probably getting advised by the same ‘think tanks’ & lobbying groups.
Wahabbis are dancing or exploding while the west cashes it in. Yemen gets a Saudi coalition while Syria is only good enough for nusra, ISIS and AQ to “protect” Syrian Muslims.
