Re: Islamic dressing - abayas and scarfs

As far as scarfs are concerned... i find it best (economically an otherwise) to go out and buy the material, and then get someone to overlock the edges.

For example, I liked a material, got a square piece that cost me $3, took it to pakistan to get it overlocked; Rs 15..... a SCARF from the same material I see in a shop months later for $15!!! some of the scarf can be quite pricey... i mean paying $15-20/ scarf is a bit much considering u need it for everyday wear...

Re: Islamic dressing - abayas and scarfs

I really love the chadors u get from pakistan as scarves but i’m sure they’re not very practical to wear every single day.. esp when the weather gets warmer… Like these

Re: Islamic dressing - abayas and scarfs

oh those r bought to take along with you to the northern areas :D hehe but ya some of them r really light and can be worn when goin out at night or something.

Re: Islamic dressing - abayas and scarfs

Sara.. I have a collection of these chadars too.. I absolutely love them but I would never wear any of these as a scarf.. hijab has to be a georgette material so it frames your face better than these chadars.. these are good to wrap around your shoulders but I never liked the way they sit on your head. very painduish!! :D

Re: Islamic dressing - abayas and scarfs

thanks, everyone. this is really nice set of resources for what i asked about.
good shawls are always less. designs, colors and fabric enable grace to us women.

Re: Islamic dressing - abayas and scarfs

reallly? i've seen some ppl wear it nad it looks so cute on them.
PS ill show u some pics of me wearing it that way :@:

Re: Islamic dressing - abayas and scarfs

It’z quite difficult to get the hang of wearing the pashmina shawlz around ur head as a hijaab, but wen pinned in the right places they do look gud! :@: i personally prefer wearing the square scarves, they sit nicely, dont hav to worry abt them moving out of place, and pinks yeh i have done tht before too, bought scarf material and had the sides over-locked makes a great Hijaab! and works out cheaper aswell :phati:

Re: Islamic dressing - abayas and scarfs

im a hijabi and i wear the pashmina scarves all the time durign the winter..they are great..it all depends on the size…

Re: Islamic dressing - abayas and scarfs

lol. i find them better then the ordinary ones.
i cant really say whether i look paindu or not :hehe:
cuz i wear it for myself, not for others viewing pleasure. :@:
but non of my mo-phut frnds ever said it to me that i look bad in them :bummer:

Re: Islamic dressing - abayas and scarfs

how do u pin it like tht..i love the pashmina scarves..i basically like the material..but i can never wear it properly on western clothes..cuz they always end up looking like a duppata on me..i dont know how to pin them any other way without them looking dupata-ish..so if u could try and explain it to me..i would really be thankful

Re: Islamic dressing - abayas and scarfs

well i first tie it in the back , then bring one side to front and wrap it around my chin up over my head and back around to my chin where i would pin it.

Re: Islamic dressing - abayas and scarfs

i also wear the pashmina shawls as scarves but not in hot weather, its so tough. If i am going to some party or anything then shawl is good but outside no way.

Re: Islamic dressing - abayas and scarfs

Afshi.. you are an exception.. you can pull off anything as a scarf... seriously, after looking at the variety of your scarves I know that you can even pull off a bed sheet elegantly. Moreover, everything suits you just fine. :-)

Personally I still dun like pashmina shawls as scarves.. I prefer the georgette ones!!! meri marzi!! :p

ps: the price range for pashmina shawls is usually between Rs.250-Rs.400 in Pakistan.

Re: Islamic dressing - abayas and scarfs

lol @ the bedsheets....hmmm....ha ha

ur too funny gia

oh i love the georgette ones!! im trying to find an animal print one..no such luck yet.....i shoudl check the fabric stores....

Re: Islamic dressing - abayas and scarfs

i got the pure pashmina shawls(Kashmiri ) and the chunri shawls(really thick stuff) when i went to india for my wedding shopping...that stuff was admired by everyone..

another stole that was warm enough it was in three colours..feorzi black and brown and that too look elegant..

my MIL bought some shawls from orega..all this i used 2 or 3 times depending upon when i go to pakistan..bczz here in jeddah :-s u cant think of shawls :S
