Worth having a look at another site:

This is based in Leicester and not sure if they do distance learning. Worth checking it with them.

Re: Islamic courses / degree in London

Univ of Chicago offers a graduate level program in Middle Eastern and Islamic studies (don't know the official name of the program) - its supposed to be one of the best.

Its in America, though.

I'd recommend that you thoroughly research the places you're looking at, visit them, and talk to students and graduates.

Re: Islamic courses / degree in London

South African universities (e.g. UNISA) have some good Theology and Islamic History programs too, but you have to be profecient in Arabic and English for those.

Re: Islamic courses / degree in London

Re: Islamic courses / degree in London

SOAS (the School of Oriental and African Studies, part of the University of London) offers a BA in Arabic and Islamic Studies, but you have to spend the final year of the degree living in Egypt or Syria.

Or if you do the BA in History they offer, you can specialise in Islamic history.

But SOAS has high standard for entry - you need ABB at A-Level.

Peace mizzrani

May Allah (SWT) aid your noble plans. Ameen.

Here are some links that might be useful, but caution needs to be taken with the secular institutes and often getting more than one perspective is vital in learning Islam. I would suggest:

  • Orientalist approach (take with caution)
  • Ahl-e-Hadith/Salafi approach
  • Sufi approach

associated with Abdul Hakim Murad (good links and plenty of resources)

London School of Islamics - teach core resolutions to contemporary Muslims, I am on their email distribution list

Al Kauthar Institute - I have invigilated their exams on a few occasions they are teaching from the Ahl-e-Hadith approach (resembles Hanbali) … These offer modules which make up a diploma and then you can extend to degree I think.
