Asia Today, BBC-World:
The need of Islamic guidance on issues of divorce in cases of husbands neither maintaning or divorcing women, Islamic Council in Dewsbury was the answer for UK residents.
The panel of consists of two Sheiks (Sheikh Q. Yaqoob), a scholar and a solicitor.
**They handle cases of Muslim women inable to get a proper Islamic divorce by their husband. Some Muslim families believe, civil divorce is not sufficient. A Muslim divorce should be taken as well, at side. **
** Both parties are requested to join the meeting and IF husband refrains from showing up on several occasions, then the panel takes in written statement of wife and they chose to believe her side of the story. Thus they issue a certificate of divorce. **
**
The Council does not handle the civil divorce or questions/agreements on child support etc.
I think its such a great initiative. Perhaps someone from UK can shred some more light? I got a mail that it had been on telly 2nite.
