I only get about 45% of what it being said here. I'm not very good at reading urdu, or understanding advanced terms. My wife might be able to help me.
I will have a look to see if I get the 'thaqeel' terms :)
Re: Islamic Calendar System Lunar????
OK so I have read it and actually don't have anything against his analysis... there's a reason why the Solar calendar is more prevalent. Should some groups honour their tradition instead, that's their 'prerogative.'
Re: Islamic Calendar System Lunar????
From the onset I have read the first few paragraphs and it seems there are a few assumptions being made. "People" are cited instead of individuals with their names and it is difficult to cross check against such loose references. Every external claim should be backed up with a reference to make this piece a scholarly one instead of journalistic, although many terms seem to be quite advanced I don't think they are technical, i.e. they are decorative rather than hold technical significance.
Arguments need to be made cogently with solid logical deduction and many articles like this one seem to draw or jump to conclusions with semi-formulated facts. I can't say anymore than this because I didn't quite understand the urdu. My reading is worse than my understanding so I may not have even read it correctly.

Re: Islamic Calendar System Lunar???
^:wsalam:
Hilal - has two plural forms ahleela and ahillah ... however the term ahalla also shares the same root but has a different meaning.
From an Arabic translation of the various forms I have prepared a crude auto-translation into English with some clean up here it is in red:
To revolve around: - appearance and clarity of raising the voice or visibility:
Crescent is from the birthing moon to the to the moon of the seventh night. As well as the moon in the latter part of the month by night twenty-sixth and so on.
And also is the symbol of some Muslim countries since the state of Bani Othman.
Crescent is the Alhll - the first rain
The rain is Alhll single glance.
Do Crescent Ehl Hala which appeared
Do so and no joy
Is the month which appeared Halaleh
And the people of any person to look at Crescent
And the people of the month which appeared Halaleh seemed
And the people of any person to raise his voice and shout
Sacrificed, and the people of any victim to raise his voice saying the name of the victim makes a sacrifice to him he says (but forbidden you dead meat, blood and pork and the people by the non-God)
Person and the people of the hilal and initiated any raise his voice in the vision
And the people of the month and was launched which saw the new moon
And the people of God which made him the clouds raindrops
Hull and any employee hired by hilal hilal to pay a certain
The proclamation of a person who says “There is no god but Allah”
Cheered the Persians and the curvature of the back like any Kalhilal became emaciated
Ahtl and the clouds and face and started cheering and any sparkling and shone
And any person Ahtl Lafter for teeth anger
Is it a month or Hilth Hilth or any initiation of
Initialization and craftsmanship is to submit the workbook in the preamble to the book or poem,
The poet in the first reference to the subject of a nice book or poem
And an eyebrow arch cheering any Kalhilal
Helli and is the female period
Is the month is the initiation of
Will it rain Ehl Hala Outpour initiated any intensified Ansbabh
Does any country diameter of the clouds has a voice
And the people of God which made him the clouds raindrops
Anhalt and the sky burst down any
Anhalt and the eye and Thllt any loss Dmaha
The rain is Alohalel
Hilal is a boost in the rain and little water at the bottom of the well
And Hala is the rain and cheered combination
Halilah were and are ground without Almmtorp around him and bringing Hlail
So the basic root meaning is from the following:
Revolve, Crescent, Arching, Curving, Gradually increasing or decreasing (in noise, visibility or rainfall), a different condition, Arcing, proclamation of La illaha ilAllah, to initiate
Here is the verse in question:
**2:189 **They ask thee concerning the New Moons. Say: They are but signs to mark fixed periods of time in (the affairs of) men, and for pilgrimage. It is no virtue if ye enter your houses from the back; it is virtue if ye fear Allah. Enter houses through the proper doors; And fear Allah, that ye may prosper.
Yas-aloonaka AAani al-ahillati qul hiya mawaqeetuli*lnnasi waalhajji walaysa albirrubi-an ta/too albuyoota min *th*uhooriha walakinnaalbirra mani ittaqa wa/too albuyoota min abwabihawaittaqoo Allaha laAAallakum tuflihoona*
So the markers of fixed periods is the 'gate' from one condition to another. The same verse talks about the entrance to houses through proper doors. This is no coincidence that this parable is in the same verse. The instruction to be strict on timing stems from the same adab that relates to entering houses from the proper places. The door separates the outside from the inside as does the hilal separate one month from another. Interestingly a door swings open in an arc which is a crescent shape from above.
By the way the Jews follow the lunar calendar also, it is just offset from our own.
This is all that I can say. I need a good translation of the urdu to disect the article though.
Re: Islamic Calendar System Lunar????
So where is the translation to this urdu article? Peace
