The writer of ‘Children of Faith’, Soumiyana’s latest book ‘Islamdale 3000’ is very different from her first novel, though it still deals with being a Muslim in a non-Muslim society, or in a non-practising Muslim society, in this case in the future.
I especially enjoyed the opening chapter, definitely one of the most original first chapters I’ve ever read and very funny. The dilemma’s which the main character goes through make me think about those issues too in real life, yet this isn’t a lecture, but still a very entertaining novel. What adds to it are the descriptions of life in 3000, complete with details of clothing, etc.
