islamabad

In the summer upcoming I want to do some voluntry work, based in Pak. I know all about the earthquake etc, but I was wondering if the recruitment programmes plan that far ahead? I really like to get things organised early, plus many of the voluntry placement schemes require organisation way aforehand.

The kind of stuff I am looking for would preferably be based in Islamabad/ surrounding areas, so karachi and NWFP would be non do-able.

I’ve two huge directorys that name pretty much every agency in the world, all I could find under Pakistan were Christian orgs and an Adventure scheme in NWFP.

Does anyone know of anything I can possibly do/ anyone I can contact? I’d be most grateful.

The time for which Id liek to volunteer is aprx 2 months. I dont know if thatll be of any help.

Humanitarian work interests me but im not especially bothered, any suggestions welcome.

Re: islamabad

Contact Pakistani Consulate nearest to your igloo. They can tell you where exactly your help can be useful. Please dont decide yourself to go to areas that are already over crowded with volunteers.
Islamabad? I dont think so. Go to far north-east.

Re: islamabad

the problem with northwest is that although my imemdiate familywould be Aok with it, the extended would create an unneccesary halabaloo. and with my antics already raising eyebrows ie:"Haw hai No Med? what can you do with physics? Wipe shoes? "

Id rather it non confrontational. However - what kinda stuff would be available up north?

Re: islamabad

^ ask Mr. Fraudia,

Re: islamabad

You can contact Edhi or Islamic Relief or some Rehab Org in Pakistan...may be they will be able to locate you some where according to your wish...

Re: islamabad

I wouldn’t want you to cum as far as the North Pole, North west is fine with me, I am quite distressed after the earthquake and I need a nurse to cheer me up.

Re: islamabad

hiccup, considering you're in the UK, you'd rather hook up with an NGO there that is providing relief work in Pak - that way they will take care of you too and it will be more organised.

I know many Pakistani doctors here went through Gift of the givers. dont just land up there, go via an NGO,

Re: islamabad

via or non via the end result is going to be the same.

Re: islamabad

catty thats a good idea, but I wasnt sure where my first port of clal should be. Also what of risk assesments?

Re: islamabad

There is a new organization that takes specifically youths. Hamid Mir ( :mudhosh: ) did an interview on it, where he spoke to the whole group of youth volunteers. My roommate’s brother went to it. They had leadership conferences in Islamabad, and then they all went to different villages and worked there on some project.

I don’t know the name actually. I’ll try finding out.
