the only way to reach chitral in this time of the year is by road through "lowari-tunnel"
Re: Islamabad to Chitral by air
At this time for year i recommend Road trip not air trip
coz the weather is bad there and roads r safe to for reaching Chitral
Re: Islamabad to Chitral by air
Waleed bhai your right. :k:
Road trip is better, it works out cheaper and while the way is not as safe as it used to be, you can still make it before some of the passes are closed.
Beware though sometimes the passes can freeze and leave you stranded in valleys almost lost in wilderness… but for me back in the day that was the most magical thing.
Trust me if you want to see valley Kalash by air your best off doing it in the summer.
In winter it’s suicide… if aything the Winds will tear any craft to pieces or drive it into the rocks… you might as well. ![]()
Besides you’ll enjoy it more if you walk in.
Re: Islamabad to Chitral by air
Okay a simple question.....can I travel by air during summer? Travelling by road gonna take up too much time and with kids I guess plane is safer coz I've heard the roads make you feel dizzy and giddy.
Re: Islamabad to Chitral by air
Sure travel by air is best during May-June period it’s hottest time of year in Pakistan but it will be a cool relief for you if you head north. ![]()
Waissay you can travel anytime after March right up till August but after that the winds get sharp as razors and the winter is too dangerous for air or even road travel… only the very toughest should go by road in winter and even then you can get caught up in storms or worse.
Allah bless you, i’m sure you can make it with providence and good fortune but it’s best to go around May-June.
Re: Islamabad to Chitral by air
^I'm planning for my next visit to Pak and this time I'm taking my kids with me....may be next year around mid March inshallah. I plan to go to China from Uk and then from China to Islamabad and then Kalash and then Lahore.....I always had this desire to visit Kalash valley. I hope everything goes according to the plan.
Re: Islamabad to Chitral by air
Insha Allah it will all be great. ![]()
Wow thats not bad at all… how are you going to China and where abouts?
I recomend southern China if it’s your first trip there… Western regions are more sparse and lawless but still exceptionally beautifull.
I love the area around Xingjiang and also further north as well.
If you travel to Xingjiang area let me know i have a lot of knowledge about that area…
Since you say that you want to go from China to Islamabad doubtless you’ll be making your trip via Karakorum Highway right… ![]()
And I wish you all the best, who knows i might even make the trip myself again theres some unfinished business…![]()
Re: Islamabad to Chitral by air
Thanks for the info…
Right now I was only checking the ticket prices and through China it doesn’t cost much …may be extra £200. One of our friends married a chinese girl and we are planning to travel with them so I guess they’d be a lot helpful but if they drop their plans out I’m definitely getting your help inshallah.

Are there any planes flying from Islamabad to Chitral these days?
I flew from Islamabad to Chitral last October (2011) for a project . Flights are open these days and close only for 2-3 months in winter. Flight was breathtaking as snow was accumulating in hill tops.
I again tried flights in April this year but they were cancelled after issuing boarding cards. Flights are usually cancelled due to less passengers than weather issues. I had to take cab from Islamabad to upper Dir and then the company I was working with for which provided a 4X4 to take me to Chitral. It took 11 hours from Ism to Chitral. Return flights were also cancelled and I had to take same road route again. Weather was pleasant in April with no warm clothes needed at that time. So no guarantee of flights taking you to Chitral and coming back as per ones plans.
Re: Islamabad to Chitral by air
I went to chitral this year, though i went by road but checked for flight availability for any future trips
there is one flight every day between peshawar and chitral, reaches chitral in the morning, and returns after noon, takes 45 minutes
I took this picture of chitral airport on the way to Birmohlusht.
Re: Islamabad to Chitral by air
Wow i was there too this year and I have the same picture of the chitral runway like this one almost ![]()
