ISLAMABAD: The cricket fraternity around the country has been requested to pray for the health of Islamabad Cricket Association (ICA) captain and talented left-handed batsman Ashar Zaidi, who was admitted to PIMS here following serious heart and kidney problem.
Ashar represented Pakistan at the junior and senior level and recently led Islamabad Leopards to the semifinals in the domestic Twenty20 Cricket competition.
The dashing player had helped Islamabad reach the last-four stage with a brilliant attacking knock against Multan Tigers. Ashar hit an unbeaten 42 off just 18 balls at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore with five fours and two sixes.
He is now fighting for life at the PIMS hospital where serious efforts are being made to bring him back to health.
“I would request all the cricket lovers throughout the country to pray for Ashar’s life. He has served the country and Islamabad cricket well and is a genuine talent. Islamabad and the country’s cricket needs him and moreover his family, near and dear ones desperately want to see him back to sound health,” ICA president Shakil Sheikh said.
Special efforts are being made on part of the ICA and the doctors treating him to bring him back to health.
The 27-year-old Karachi-born Ashar has played for Islamabad, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), Rawalpindi, Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) and Federal Area since 1999-00. He has scored 4,299 runs (ave 34.95) in 77 first-class matches with seven hundreds and 24 fifties, held 69 catches and taken 40 wickets (ave 30.92) with his left-arm medium-pace.
He also represented Pakistan in the 1999-00 Under-19 World Cup staged in Sri Lanka.
