bismihi Ta’ala
assalam o alaikum …
there is no shortage of materials which comes to assessing the implications of the tragic Nine Eleven for muslims. the geo-political implications, with a greater focus on the politization of Islam.
well, the subject header above is a title by Akbar Ahmed. he has always been a proponent of change from within, looking at the malaise that afflicts the Islamic world. he did so during the Rushdie affair, and continues to do in the aftermath of Nine Eleven.
having said, why should one pursue reading this title? for lovers of history and historians and also of Islamic spirituality, he offers the medicine. the analysis, stepped into the historicity of Ibn Khaldun, with a reflection on asabiyya, a term that signifies ‘social cohesion’, and importantly its implications for ihsan. the breakup of the Islamic Order, and the dis-integration that has lead to the chaos, is a reflection of the spiritual poverty that is among the several factors for this confusion.
read the title, and offer your comments. i have not done justice to its review, and encourage others to offer their perspective
always yours
