Islam... sword or saint?

Faris you are right :lajwab:but we can’t forget the Muslims rulers who showed great justice thought out their era. So everybody felt comfortable in their governance.

Re: Islam... sword or saint?

^Yes.....

One such example was Akbar.

Again the later rulers who succeeded Aurangazib. They had come to known the fact that it was Aurangazib's distorted religious fanatism that caused the decline of their Mughal empire. But the matters were too late for them to handle then.

I believe it's because of the geographical factors that had played in formulating Southener's views. North,Central and West had always been occupied with invasions, attcks, counter attacks and resistance whereas down south ,though had frequent conflicts, also had engaged in trade reltionships with the rest of the world.(Arabs,Romans,Chinese and others). This is one of the reasons the prominent worldwid travellers paid their visits to down south. This congnial atmosphere offered by the down south, its accessibility by sea routes might be one of the reasons the foreign religions cam to down south first than other places.

Also the southeners heartfully accepted the new ideas, educational system and a more pragmatic approach brought in by the outsiders. One can spot seminaries and schools started by the outsiders almost across south.

The Southerners who had witnessed considerably low attacks or invasion attempts from Central or North could use their ample time in forging relationships with the outside world through maritime trade ,This could be one of the reasons ,the Zamorin of Calicut(Kerala)could organize a large force againt the Portugese, with the help of Arabs and Egyptians.

This cosmopolitan nature could very well be one of the reasons ,barring a few resistnces and repercussions, the British were friendly with the Southeners.

(My Great grand parents and Grand parents were British civil servants(Military and Government)).

AlSo the Southeners were willing to travel outside, bypassing their religious or customary laws and bindings. The biggest temple in the world is not in India. Its the Angkor wat in Combodia. The Khemr rulers who built this gigantic timeless temple had connections with South India. Ex:Jayavarman,Suryavarman etc. Agin their influence across the South East Asia reiterates the fact...

That wasn’t the only region. Hyderabad Deccan sided with the British in their conquest of the rest of India from virtually the very start and was rewarded with maintaining independent in virtually all matters except defence and foreign relations.

Re: Islam… sword or saint?

^But indeed there was an uprising in Hyderabad in 1857!!! even after Nizam sided with the British.

Re: Islam... sword or saint?

^This half naked fakir(As Mr.Churchil said) brought an empire to its knees, gained reputation worldwide and still being revered and respected. :)

Re: Islam… sword or saint?

Who is Churchal :khumar:

Re: Islam… sword or saint?

:omg:

Churchhill was British prime minister during World War two. Famous fatso with the cigar in his mouth half the time.

As for Ghandi bringing down an empire… i doubt that very much he is indeed reverred but i doubt he could bring down his prison cell wall at Ahmednuggur… let alone the British empire.

Britian realised it was sitting on a tinderbox it couldn’t hold so it gave up. Besides the Japanese were the ones that showed the weakness of the British empire… the british learnt that if Singapore could fall nowhere was safe and hence, time to close up the empire.

Perhaps we can discuss Ghandis merits and falls in another thread.

But back to the topic Ghandi himself said that he was a firm believer that Islam was spread through the teachings of saints rather than swords of soldiers.

Re: Islam… sword or saint?

Oh i thought Churchal was saint so all Muslims and Hindu accept her a lot and take his every word as a Holy word  :shireen:
Agree with you Faris on merits and demerits of Gandi in separate thread but i think ARL got emotional … yah lo bhai khao :shireen:
