puberty is the concern islamically age is not. and i have never heard that 17 was the age.

I don't know, you said it was cultural. Islam is not just Arab culture is it? Or should we be marrying our 9 year old daughters?

They are only two options either you are confused or i am. I mentioned islamically its allowed to marry someone at the age of puberty never i mentioned age, so this is the difference.
Cultural comes into picture only when you read the article, regarding different regions, weather are functions of it. Regarding cultural i hope you get my drift particularly in our sub continent the cultural part is become religious and these sayings are adhered to the saying of Prophet.
