Islam favours inter-racial marriages?

This is a spin-off from the thread in the Lifestyles Forum.

Would appreciate some Ayats/Hadiths that corroborate the title of this thread.

The only one i can think of, off the top of my head without doing much research, is this Ayat:

O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). {49.13}

Any others?

BTW, this is not to discuss whether a Muslim husband may marry a nonMuslim wife, etc. That can be discussed in a separate thread. Please restrict the discussion to what i have specifically outlined above, nothing else. Thank you in advance.

Are you planning to ask me out Nadia? You're so coy.

Sorry for disturbing the thread, back to it.

dang :eek: How did you know?

ps- check my signature for an answer to that query.

Good, then the Unicorn I have stored away won't be much of a shock to you.

i dont think that Islam favors or dis-favors any sor of marriages....
those that are allowed r allowed and those that r not, just simple r not....

but, i cud by some research and collection of hadith and verses, prove to u, that inter-racial marriages r not favored (or perhaps less supported wud be a better way to put it) by Islam....
simples reason is the compatibiliy issue....
my brother has married a persian girl and believe me its by no means easy to adjust for either of them....

Does it come with a few elves?

Anyways, isn’t it late where you are ? :hoonh: Shouldn’t you be sleeping? :stuck_out_tongue:

Alright, if you have time, please give me the Hadiths and/or Ayats that corroborate that. Thank you in advance. (Whenever you have time, no rush).

I THINK It depends on the situation. If a person cannot find somebody from their own country, than I guess Its ok.

Assalam Aleekum
Are you sure 49-13 is related to this topic.

:flower1:

Yes.

Whatever I say will be off the top of my head, so please dont ask for references:)

Islam doesnt forbid inter-racial (or even interfaith) marriages, but doesnt 'encourage' them either, from what Ive figured.

I remember a hadees, where the Prophet (saw) is said to have encouraged someone to marry someone who is similar to them in most aspects, i-e, social and economic status etc. Though I dont remember the race word being used in this hadees, I figure that what this hadees says is that in order to avoid conflicts, some of the obvious points of contention should be avoided, i-e, marrying someone richer/poorer than you, or someone from a different tribe, or someone with different social/cultural preferences. What it does is averts some of the most common points of conflict.
Hats off to those who do make things work, even in extremely different circumstances, but the fact remains, its a difficult job, and most humans dont have the temperament for it, so its easier to avoid it, rather than get into it, and then spend most of your life trying to come to terms with it.

I dont think Islam favors inter-ratial marriages.. ayat {49.13}
doesnt mention anywhere about marriages it simply refers to general attitude and superiority afixed to any group or clan of people. Its a slap to our self acclaimed sayyids and pirs who think by birth they are supior to other muslims. Equality of all human beings is the essence on which Islamic faith is based.

I dont think Islam forbids interracial marriages IF it does then there is something seriously wring with that religion.

Of course islam favours marriages of all kind different race or same race its irrelevant.

Unfortunatly some of our forefathers in places like pakistan and bangledesh, india etc give the impression that we should only marry same race which is incorrect.

Racism is haram in islam

Arab is not superior to a Non-Arab, and a Non-Arab is not superior to an Arab; except in good conduct and piety [Khutba al wida]

one famous hadith:

he who calls for asabiyah (tribalism, racism, nationalism) is not one of us

I never said Islam forbids interracial marriages .. i just said it doesnt favors or encourages such marriages too.. interracial marriages are just treated as normal marriages.. no special emphasis on them.. its just up to individuals to decide ..

Somewhat related but a bit off-topic, I want to know if Islam encourages marriage within family, as in relatives that are not mehram to one. I know it's allowed but I was told it's encouraged. It would be nice to have that clarified.
