Islam and knowledge

If you had to explain to someone the Islamic teachings and rulings on knowledge, how would you do that? Which quranic verses/ahadees/quotes from sahaba/sufiya etc would you use?

Especially if your words were to be compared to someone else who’s just elegantly promoted his/her religion.

Quran 58:11
*Allah will exalt those who believe among you, and those who have knowledge, to high ranks. Allah is Informed of what ye do. *

"Say: O my Lord! Increase me in knowledge." (Qur'an 20:114)

"Say: Are those who know and those who do not know alike?" (Qur'an 39:9)

Knowledge is a composite of human learnings to date. It is not proprietary to one religion or school of thought.

This is a vague question so it deserves a vague answer... It depends who you are talking to, how well you know them, and if it is appropriate to address particular rulings/teachings in the context that is under discussion...
