Islam and Imprisonment...

Can someone please tell me whether there is such a thing as imprisonment for the means of rehabilitiation in Islam or do we just hand out punishments?..

How does Islam ackowledge psychiatric patients…does someone crazy who commits crime get treated as any normal criminal or are they treated differently?..

Does Islam believe in rehabilitation prgrams such as drug rehabilitation or helping those with alcohol problems?..

Re: Islam and Imprisonment...

no there is no imprisonment in Islam, because frankly speaking, being kept away from the society and locked up with a bunch of criminals is never going to make u a better person....

an insane person is not punishable by Islam....

if u implement the hudood for drugs/alcohol u wont need any rehab programs for those....
the fear of lashes is good enuff to let hands tremble even on the thought of such things....

Re: Islam and Imprisonment...

What were those bandi khanas? Every muslim ruler has got one of his time!

Re: Islam and Imprisonment...

The idea of imprisonment is not to make a better person but for punishment.

Re: Islam and Imprisonment...

nothing to do with Islam....

and very very wrong to say that every muslim ruler had one....

Re: Islam and Imprisonment...

Who were those ghulams and bandhis then?

Re: Islam and Imprisonment...

Traditionally, no...from one-shot punishments to exile. In practice, the state has absolute authority to implement whatever penal system it wants, so long as the laws it follows are Islamic.

Traditionalists would probably only disagree on Hadd punishments; but for all others, fines and prison terms seem to raise no eyebrows.

Yes, insanity/mental illness is a valid defense.

[FONT='Times New Roman']Yes, so long as it's not coupled with decriminalization attempts. Repentant drug users can't truly repent if they're still addicted.

Re: Islam and Imprisonment...

And cutting a hand will make him/her a better person, I think it will make him/her a bitter person.

Do you have any reference for this?

Very true thats why I say all religions are based on greed and fear.

Re: Islam and Imprisonment...

Can you eloborate your question?

Re: Islam and Imprisonment...

A penal system is not the whole religion. It is only intended for anti social elements so you have made a grave generalization.

It would be more accurate to say Islam is based on need not greed, and Love and sacrifice and not fear.

Though fear and greed are involved in curbing some parts of the rebellious these tactics are are subset of love because it is through ones love for another that he should be stopped from harming himself (soul), even if that means to take his life in the process. (under judicial conditions).

Re: Islam and Imprisonment...

So how does Islam deal with those with psychiatric problems especially those who are dangerous?...do we imprison them?...

Re: Islam and Imprisonment...

^ do u think imprisonment of people with psychriatic problems and criminals is the same thing????

Re: Islam and Imprisonment...

Many, if not most criminals have psychiatric problems. So they are one in the same.

Re: Islam and Imprisonment...

Very well said.

Re: Islam and Imprisonment...

Very few have born Psychiatric issues. Its the circumstances they grow up in that causes the damage.

Re: Islam and Imprisonment...

Can you differentiate a person who does a psychotic action intentionally because he believes he is doing it for a reason or one who does it unknowingly without a purpose behind it.

Re: Islam and Imprisonment...

:)

Re: Islam and Imprisonment...

Whether they are born with it or it's the circumstances they grow up in, they have psychiatric issues. Or does Islam have one form of penalty for those born with issues and one for those who develop them?
