Islam and history of casteism

From the verses of Quran and teachings of prophet, it is very much clear that Islam don’t support discrimination on the basis of race and caste.

Following were the words of the Prophet (SAW) in his famous last sermon:
**
All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action. **

The prophet not only preached but practiced this notion in tribal society of Arab. Many tribes which were enemies and fighting for centuries with each other became united due to prophet’s teaching.

Having said the above, how following of casteism started in Muslims?

In sub-continent, Muslims seems to follow this more than anyother country in Muslim world? Is it due to cultural aspects of the sub-continent, which could not be exterminated in Muslims of sub-continent?

Re: Islam and history of casteism

arabs still have tribes...

like different tribes were against each other in libiya

Re: Islam and history of casteism

^ that is due to the caste system that was ingrained in the social fabric of the society. Caste system is not that much in pashtuns and baloch's, but when we come to punjab it is much more there. Although the religion promotes equality, the best example is "salah" itself where some one regardless of his caste can lead and the followers are of other castes. The castes (baradari) that I see now, play a role in elections and marriages, and discrimination still occurs towards the people of lower castes and this is more in rural areas. I think baradari or affiliation with one's tribe is good to the extent that it differentiates us with each other, but there should be no discrimination which hopefully will go away with time.

Re: Islam and history of casteism

Is there any difference of status in those tribes like castes in Hinduism or like Muslims of subcontinent following Ashraaf o ajlaaf terminologies?

Do Syeds given same status (like chosen one) in Arab countries?
