Islam and Hinduism

 Everybody, I believe knows about Zakir Naik’s claim that Hindu holy books predicted the birth of Prophet Muhammad(pbuh). However this article (posted on a pro-Hindu site) takes a different view of things.(Discuss, I am not used to hanging around with Hindus)

Bhavishya Purana

The prediction of Islam as given
in the Bhavishya Purana

[From the third part of the Pratisarga Parva.]

Shri Suta Gosvami said: In the dynasty of king Shalivahana, there were ten kings who went to the heavenly planets after ruling for over 500 years. Then gradually the morality declined on the earth. At that time Bhojaraja was the tenth of the kings on the earth. When he saw that the moral law of conduct was declining he went to conquer all the directions of his country with ten-thousand soldiers commanded by Kalidasa. He crossed the river Sindhu and conquered over the gandharas, mlecchas, shakas, kasmiris, naravas and sathas. He punished them and collected a large ammount of wealth. Then the king went along with Mahamada (Mohammad), the preceptor of mleccha-dharma, and his followers to the great god, Lord Shiva, situated in the desert. He bathed Lord Shiva with Ganges water and worshipped him in his mind with pancagavya (milk, ghee, yoghurt, cow dung, and cow urine) and sandalwood paste, etc. After he offered some prayers and pleased him.

Suta Goswami said: After hearing the king’s prayers, Lord Shiva said: O king Bhojaraja, you should go to the place called Mahakakshvara, that land is called Vahika and now is being contaminated by the mlecchas. In that terrible country there no longer exists dharma. There was a mystic demon named Tripura, whom I have already burnt to ashes, he has come again by the order of Bali. He has no origin but he achieved a benediction from me. His name is Mahaoda and his deeds are like that of a ghost. Therefore, O king, you should not go to this land of the evil ghost. By my mercy your intelligence will be purified. Hearing this the king came back to his country and Mahamada came with them to the bank of the river Sindhu. He was expert in expanding illusion, so he said to the king very pleasingly: O great king, your god has become my servant. Just see, as he eats my remnants, so I will show you. The king became surprised when he saw this just before them. Then in anger Kalidasa rebuked Mahamada, “O rascal, you have created an illusion to bewilder the king, I will kill you, you are the lowest…"
…]

That city is known as their site of pilgrimage, a place which was Madina or free from intoxication. Having a form of a ghost (Bhuta), the expert illusionist Mahamada appeared at night in front of king Bhojaraja and said: O king, your religion is of course known as the best religion among all. Still I am going to establish a terrible and demoniac religion by the order of the Lord. The symptoms of my followers will be that they first of all will cut their genitals, have no shikha, but having beard, be wicked, make noise loudly and eat everything. They should eat animals without performing any rituals. This is my opinion. They will perform purificatory act with the musala or a pestle as you purify your things with kusha. Therefore, they will be known as musalman, the corrupters of religion. Thus the demoniac religion will be founded by me. After having heard all this the king came back to his palace and that ghost went back to his place.

The intelligent king, Bhojaraj established the language of Sanskrit in three varnas - the brahmanas, kshatriyas and vaisyas - and for the shudras he established prakrita-bhasha, the ordinary language spoken by common men. After ruling his kingdom for 50 years, he went to the heavenly planet. The moral laws established by him were honored even by the demigods. The arya-varta, the pious land is situated between Vindhyacala and Himacala or the mountains known as Vindhya and Himalaya. The Aryans reside there, but varna-sankaras reside on the lower part of Vindhya. The musalman people were kept on the other side of the river Sindhu.

On the island of Barbara, Tusha and many others also the followers of Isamsiha were also situated as they were managed by a king or demigods.

Bhavishya Purana(Parva 3,Khand3,Adhya3,text5-6)

“A illiterate teacher will appear, Mahamada is name, and he will give religion to his fifth-class companions.” This does not describe much in regard to Muhaamad Life, but it does mention Muhammad by name and what he was expected to do. And Indeed, Muhammad, Born between 570 and 580AD seriously turned to religion after his 40th birthday. He preached in the area of mecca for more than ten years and, although he was mostly ignored, he formed a small sect from the lower class of people in the region. Later he and his followers entered the place Yathrib/Medina, Whick is the event known as the beginning of the Islamic Faith. Thus the vedic text predicted the apperance of Muhammad.

Islam is from God. But That Religion has a purpose. This is Kali-Yuga meaning Age Of destruction/irreligion and Ignorance. You decide."

Re: Islam and Hinduism

Where religion hardly stands in the way

CHENNAI: **Misbah Fathima has a master’s degree in Applied Mathematics but wants to teach Sanskrit.

Nuzhath Fathima, her sister, who is doing her master’s degree in Electronic Science, is also studying Sanskrit. She is proficient in Tamil and English and took up Sanskrit out of interest.**

At the Murthuzaviya Educational and Cultural Foundation on Big Street in Triplicane where the sisters learn Sanskrit, there are as many Muslim youngsters as Hindu youth enrolling to learn the ancient language.

Currently, over 140 students in the 6-35 age group are learning the language to sit for the qualifying examinations. Kovidh, conducted by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, is the highest examination offered to these students and quite a few Muslim students clear it with distinction.

The Foundation has been running the course for the past 30 years and around 1,100 students have registered for the classes. Of these, 206 students have passed Kovidh. Students begin by learning basic language skills and by the time they reach the Kovidh level, they are equipped to write essays in Sanskrit and translate English passages into Sanskrit. “Most of them take Sanskrit out of interest ,” says the Foundation’s correspondent G.S.M.P. Khadri. **Students like Aisha Begum who dropped out of school at 12, are also taken in. “I am learning Sanskrit just out of interest,” she says. **Her classmate points out that it will take her more time than others who are more literate.

Often, teachers were themselves students here. One such person is Jayanthi, who teaches a mixed class of about 30 students, most of whom are girls.

The Foundation has also taken up the cause of Urdu calligraphy. “Urdu press was almost dead. One had to go out of the State to learn calligraphy. This institution started running a two-year diploma course in calligraphy design, sanctioned by the Government of India,” says Dr. Khadri. The calligraphy classroom is filled with watercolour designs in Urdu lettering, many of them in praise of Allah.

Sabarimala Pilgrimage, an Example of
Communal Harmony

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sabarimala, the abode of Lord Ayyapa, a pilgrimage centre in Kerala, is a true example of communal harmony. During the Mandala-Makara Vilakku festival, thousands of devotees, from all over the country come to offer prayer to the Lord and pay homage to nearby Vavar mosque.

Devotees of Lord Ayyapa, or Ayyappa Bhaktar or Swamis as they are called during the pilgrimage by others, come dressed in dark colours like black or blue. With colours smeared all over their face and body, they come dancing all the way to the Ayyappa's temple. **Devotees offer prayer by going round the temple and come out reverse (not showing the back to the god). After that they visit the Vavar mosque across the road. Devotees go round the mosque chanting "Swamisaranam" and break coconuts in the mosque. The Muslim priest gives away "vibhoothi" to the devotees, who apply it on their forehead. They in turn offer some money in the mosque.

**
PH Sahajahan, president of Vavar Mosque, said, “Every year, around 1 crore pilgrims from different parts of the country visit this holy place. To pay homage they go round the mosque. Devotees pay offerings and break coconuts. **Pilgrims visit the mosque in the memory of Vavar, a Muslim, who was the right lieutenant of Ayyapa.” **

Mandala Makara Vilakku festival season begins on November 17, with a customary function at 5:30 pm. In this the outgoing 'melshanthi', or chief priest, opens the sanctum sanctorum of the temple and lights the ceremonial lamps in front of the Ayyappa idol.

Legends have it that Muslim invader Vavar and his army attacked the Pandalam State and Ayyappa was sent to defend the State. After a fierce battle, Ayyappa overcame Vavar and later both became great friends. Vavar later settled down at Erumeli and breathed his last there. A shrine was constructed at his tomb. Vavar's shrine is situated about 40 km from the Sabarimala temple and it is mandatory for all to pray there before moving on to Sabarimala.

Over 10 million devotees visit Sabarimala during the annual pilgrimage, which begins in December and culminates by the middle of January.
