A girlfriend is a 'friend' who happens to be a girl? Or A girlfriend is a 'girl' who happens to be a friend fulfilling the friendly needs? OR niether of these?
I think girlfriend and boyfriend do need to be defined in clear sense so we can understand what exactly are we talking about.
