How much should one rely on ishtikharas, and are there sorts of questions that you’re not supposed to rely on ishtikharas for?

I would like to know how istikhara is performed?

I'm not into it very much, but as far as I know it's usually done to help decide whether a Rishta is suitable or not. But it can be done for pretty much any decision where you are unsure what to do, ie which college to choose, whether to accept a job offer, etc.

Istikha is seeking help from Allah for any matter be it rishta, work, anything. I've heard u get to see what is better for you in dream or Allah will make your heart to be inclined towards whatever is right for you.

I might be wrong, PCG. But my understanding is that istikhara is used to find out if you should pursue a particular matter or not...it's to find out of it's good for you or not. I have read that istikhara can be used to determine who's doing jadoo on you.....but that purpose doesn't make sense to me because if you read the translation of the dua, that's not the purpose the dua is addressing. Again I could be wrong.

I do rely on Istikharas too much. I dont do it in every case, but if I find myself in a very tough situation where Im not in a position to decide whats good for me or not, I do Istikhara and totally act upon it!!

Do your own personal istakhara, try to do this in an unbiased way. You may have a good/bad dream and good or bad feelings. Always trust ur first instinct and intuition, trust ur feelings they come from Allah. Don't let anyone however close to you they may be manipulate ur feelings or thoughts. Also use ur logic alongside prayer when making serious decisions.

2 nafl's before bedtime, I forget now which sura's you read. Just before you end namaz you read istakhara prayer.

I've done istikhaara before but only once did I get a very clear answer.

I did an isthikhara once, and boy did I misinterpret those results....

istikhara is just not about dreaming ,

it also makes things easy or difficult depending whether it is good or bad , so if everything turns out bad , you should know that it is not in your favour
