okay sounds confusing, just heard someone say it on some religiuosy time programme. that when you name a child you have to think carefully, not every name goes, and sometimes a name can be bhaari have a heavy effect on the person. whats this mean…?
Which made my mum suggest maybe malaika was a bhaari name for my newborn, because shes unsettled. scaring the pants off me.
What you need to be afraid of is a bhaari admi never a bhari name!! I keeed!! Malaika is a beautiful name but I think the bhaariness comes from the meaning of a name and not the name itself. However all the shaniquas and apples and other wierd names people give their kids might prove this bhaari name theory wrong.
The question can only be answered if you tell us your daugher's zodiac sign. Maybe Venus and Mars were retograding at the time of her birth, hence the crankiness. Or mebbe she's just being a baby. Though I've also read (don't know how true it is) that stress during pregnancy can lead to anxious babies. Whatever the reason, if you're thinking of changing her name, do it on the night of a full moon...it's a more auspicious time.
malaika is plural of "angel", when you call her malaika ider aao... I think few farishty would come too...
^Coherently worded, MashaAllah. And he's right too. Malaika is the plural of angel....so it's angels. The word Malak...refers to one angel and would make more sense. I know that Arabs use Malak as a name for girls....actually know of a girl by that name.
I think it's just a superstition, Nadz. I have never actually heard an elder give a religious reason for it. If a baby gets sick or is overly cranky after being named, the blame automatically goes to the name.
It would be interesting to know where this supersitition came from though.
You Know I've also heard the same. But the bharri thing was explained to me a different way. The Alim said that when we chose a name, it comes with a responsibility, especially names of the prophets and their wives. So before choosing a name make sure you can live up-to at least half of its gloryness. And that is where good parenting comes in, making sure the name you choose for your child, the religious meaning for it, and your bringing up for it at-least lives up for it.
Religiously there is a lot of weight behind this argument. Names have an effect on the child, most definitely. Some heavy names can be remedied by totally changing it, or by attaching another name to it. An alim would know better, but yes this is true
Id be making fun too...if recently my sil didnt gonthrough a life threatening ordeal with her newborn.... Changed the kid's name after finding out his birth number which was not in accordance to what they had named him.... Thus the 'bhaari-ness" of the na e on him.. They come home after a horrendous 3 weeks at the hospitsl where the drs are talking of heart and liver issues .... Rename him something else.... And within 24 hours...the kid goes from being incubated to suddenly being awake...drinking milk and wetting his diapers....
Nothing diff was done at the hospital...yet the sudden change.
Ther HAS to be something there....
How do u explain sick kids suddenly taking a turn for the better once their names have been changed? I know of 2 more kids... Its like day and night!
If you are so concerned about 'religious' reasonings, then why don't you go to your local Masjid and ask the Imam Sahib, or write an email to that particular programe?
Having said that... Dont just go and change her name... Make sure there isnt something else the matter with her first. Reflux...colic... Milk allergy ...lactose intoleranxe etc...
My daughter wouldnt sleep and that is how we spent the dirst 4 months... Then i realized it was milk allergy....switched to hypo milk...and she is a new baby!
