It doesnt matter if you’re trying to protect national security or whatnot…is it ever acceptable?

I am faced with a double edged sword here. From experience, years ago I was never going to even think about commiting harm to anyone... but part of my lifes most unfortunate period was when I was machined into a state created monster.
I still remember the motto of the instituition to which I spent 18 months of my misery and the motto was "We harm others so that they may never harm us"
In human nature there is this terrible inner self who is a monster your heart and mind will be disgusted by him but when you unlock the monster inside you you've had it.
I knew my fellow recruits were great humans when we went in we came out like monsters and are still like it today.
I would never hurt someone unless they were a threat to me... in the case of life for a life one man is not in his own control.
Torture is wrong my heart and mind scream it but I have no shame in admitting that if I considered something a threat to me or that which I valued then I would more than likely commit unspeakable crimes.
Please try to understand what i'm saying because it'sreally never so simple, we all go in saying we wont hurt anyone but in my experience majority of people succumb to the beast within on the first hour of thier training.
Theres no excuse for torture, perhaps but it will happen so long as your a human being with emotions.
Unnessacary torture is utterly wrong though you cant torture a beaten foe who is no threat.

Torture is not acceptable in any form, imo
But isn’t the hand/leg cutting and stoning to death also comes within the domain of torture

I think that 90 % of the times, physical torture is not required in any kind of investigation as there are many ways of mental or psychological tortures that can make the person give away. There can however be instances where physical torture may be required to have the suspect open his mouth.

As long as it isn't life threatening and is within legal boundaries, I would support physical torture to an extent if it was a matter of saving people's lives.

There is a difference between execution and torture... if you speak truly chances are you may not be tortured besides you are often not proven to be guilty anyway so until then you wont be tortured at least thats how it should work in my opinion. If you commit a crime and then it does not matter what you think or say you will be punished and execution is garunteed in that sense.
So Dallas whats the problem?

the problem is torture. i think that was one of main reason why we all cried 24/7 in drawing rooms & forums ...on what is happening at abu gharaib & Guantanamo.
hence, don't endorse torture at any point. I think problem is solved Houston.

Sorry Dallas problem is not, solved torture is part of human nature my friend when threatened it's the survival instinct kicking in...
offcourse some sadistic pigs are often taking it too far because it gives them pleasure to torture just becuase they can... now thats wrong.
As many have said on this thread that they can see the reason why when lives are at stake torture is neccasary and judging by many peoples responses it seems quite acceptable.... it might not be fine by your heart and mind and the feeling is mutual on this one, but torture in some form is always going to be used and that is a sad fact of human nature.... you simply cant say its something you cannot do becuase beleive me when the need hits you even you yourself will be jumping up for endorsing it.

torture is torture...PERIOD! it must NOT be allowed in any circumstance. once u allow then one day u'll be tortured urself and i bet u won't like it one bit.

See, Im not sure of my stance on this.
Reason being, torturing (inflicting physical pain) someone to get them to do something against their will sounds wrong...doesnt it?
However, if it means having a criminal behind bars...then how can I be against it? That criminal has hurt people and has the potential to hurt many more.
I dont advocate violence but this is really confusing. How and where do you draw the line?

well it dependz because if u torture someone to make that person quite smoking or anything tht we call wrong than i guess itz ok. now over here i mean to dont let the person smoke ir anything wrong, not to like u knw. But some people call taking a pack of cigarette a torture too
but torture for pleasure that i would have to disagree
