im having my lunch and this indian(hindu) friend of mine comes along and asks, “mian kya khaa rahe hoan”. To which I replied, “guy(cow) maata kha raha hoan”.
LOL. He gave me a sorta nasty look and after talking for a couple more secs he walked away. The frnd of mine who i was having lunch with told me that I had been very rude. I’m like hey im only kidding and i wudnt get pissed if i see someone eat pork or drink alcohol.

there is a diff btween someone sayign he is eating something that is forbidden to you, versus you eating something that is considered sacred for someone else.
secondly its the manner in which it is stated, I doubt that if you had said I am eating beef, he would be offended, but saying guy maata..well had I been there and heard it I would be offended too, and I am a muslim (well a heretic as some may say) and not a hindu (although by some hindu philosophy we are all hindus).
anyways, i think you should talk to yer freind and apologize for making an insensitive comment and explain that you did not mean to offend him but had momentary lapse of reason.

I think that shows a lack of knowing what is an appropriate comment and what is not.... But then again I dont know if this guy was a good friend of yours who you joke around with in this manner all the time...and i am not sure if that even matters..
But to me, that shows a definate lack of judgement on ur part...no matter what the relationship is.

I am an Indian Hindu who eats beef/pork and everything else on four legs (basically don't discriminate between animals).
So dont understand what the fuss is about............

the fuss is about respecting other people's beliefs. if hindus hold cows sacred, and equate em to their mothers,,, why would u tell soemone i,m eating 'gao maata' ? why cant u just say i,m having beef?

I'm a Muslim and I've had people drink alcohol and eat pork around me, the smell makes me a bit nauseas sometimes because I think it's dirty but eating beef and then saying what you said is completely different, cow's are scared to Hindus sort of like a mother goddess, you'll get a few modern Hindus who eat beef but the devout don't even touch it and the devouter still are strict vegetarians..
