is this correct?

I am contemplating going to West Indies to watch some games of super 8 series in worldcup. My problem is that we dont know who will be 1st and 2nd in their group until preliminary round is over. Hence I cannot decide where should I go if I need to watch matches involving India.

I was talking to a travelling agent. He said that Who will be first or 2nd in their group is almost decided unless one of minows pull of an upset. Like in Group B, irrespective of result of India vs SL game, SL will be B1 and India B2 unless any of the minnows qualify. Following is the email I got. How many of you thing that it is accurate. This sure makes life very easier for those who want to travel there.

The only stipulation is that provided India and Sri Lanka is in top two of their group. If that does not happen meaning Bangladesh & Bermuda pulls up some upsets than it could be different. BUT what are the chances of that happening - VERY POOR.
So if India and Srilanka does qualify as top two from group B. Because of the seedings in 2005 at time of draw- Srilanka being ranked 2 in world (at that time) will be on top (B1) and India ranked 8 will be (B2). This way games listed and predictions are accurate. You can see rankings in group draw on ICC website next to team name.
Chances of lower teams pulling an upset in any group are very poor so it is safe to assume. This is what everyone is going by all over the world and buying tickets/ tours. This is how it has been done over the years with all world cups.

Re: is this correct?

And All the paintup frustration of last 7-8 months comes out. I am glad WI gave some happiness to some of you

Re: is this correct?

Considering both SL and India will beat the other two minnows wouldn't it depend on the outcome of the match between the two to decide who is on top and who comes second in the group.

Re: is this correct?

That was exactly my understanding but he is saying that it is not true.
Doest matter who wins the game. If both qualify then SL is cosidered as B1 and India B2. In final outcome it doesnt matter because both team needs to play all other qualifying team anyway. They carry point of that one match from preliminarygroup stage. It does insures that which team plays in which city and when. If Bangldesh does an upset then bangladesh take B1 position if SL is out or B2 if India is out.

F&B I think the travelling agent is right.
Check out this link

It shows SL as B1 and India as B2 for the Super 8 stage. It is based upon the ranking of these teams i.e SL 2 and India 8.
