Is there anybody here that married outside of their culture or language?

Re: Is there anybody here that married outside of their culture or language?

  1. lots and lots of cultural differences, but since my husband and I have lived on on our own since day 1 (no joint family set up and my mil isn’t here full time) it’s not that bad

  2. I’ve picked up a few phrases here and there and can generally make out the gist of conversations, but husband only talks in Urdu, so my mil speaks to us I. Urdu only (but she lehja and style is very different from mine understandably!)

  3. kids are not learning Kutchi at all since it is not spoken by my husband. When my mil is here she talks to the kids in Urdu, but my nand and eldest jait will talk to her in Kutchi

Yeah I know, they usually consider themselves to be (ethnic) Kashmiris lol… just because they or their parents are from Azad Kashmir… However, I consider them Punjabi.
Ethnic Kashmiris speak Koshur while Mirpuris speak Pahari/Pothwari, the latter one being a Punjabi dialect. These Mirpuris belong to different Punjabi clans.

And no, I do not hate or dislike them. I am a Punjabi/Potohari myself.

Interesting! I’ve always lived with in-laws and still am to this very day. I’ve tried to hold on to some of my own culture so I can bring up my kids on a mixture of mine and his! Ah his whole family and him speak in kutchi so I’ve picked it up a fair bit.
