…to cook our desi food without getting the smell from it on yourself? Seems everytime I cook something desi, afterwards my clothes become so besotted with the desi food smell that you can have a full meal of salan just by touching the roti to my shirt…Any way around this?
to be honest...NO :p
wear an apron(this barely helps) or wear old clothes while cooking...:)
well i suggest lightin up candles, bed bath n beyond n pier1 import have nice candles.. atleast mine are .. they r a bit pricey but effective...
Open all the windows. Thats what I do. And quickly add water before it starts to smell. Put very little oil, I think that helps. Don't give "bhagaar's". Just keep it simple.
My aunt suggests to boil vinegar in a pot, while cooking. But I just wear seperate clothes while cooking, than I clean my hands with lemon and the smell magically dissappears. Try the first see how it works for u.:)
The permanent smell is that of frying onions. Either do not use onions in your recipies or buy pre-fried onions easily available at desi stores. It not only cuts down on coooking time but also keeps you smell free.
I am assuming you don't use the exotic spices such as Karri Pata and other herbs. Those have strong odors too. Just use the regular spices or Shan. Also store all your spices in air-tight jars. And make sure your bedroom/closet doors are shut when you are doing cooking. Also do not leave your jackets in the kitchen area.

Boiling vinegar during or after cooking definitely works. We do this at home. Also, wearing old clothes also is good. Just make sure to shower afterwards and you should be fine.
Unless you work in a Desi Restaurant and are cooking all day long the smell shouldn't be a problem. If it is then you are not using your masalas proportionally or not at the right time. Also double check your exhaust fan.
Thanks all for the replies…Appreciated…:k:
