^not bold at all. simple facts.
Maybe not to you, but with general trend of preferring race over religion, it is bold (and truthful) statement.
However............one should not deny or condemn his mother, since personal liking is equivalent to personal freedom.
Just as OP likes the man regardless of origin or ethnic backgound, his mother has full right to expect her son to marry someone who she feels comfortable with.
If she (mother) chooses someone from same religion and race then OP's point is invalidated.
That is why I said (without prejudice) in beginning, whoever convinces other will dictate the result.
