I’ve been enquired that is there any evidence from the Sunnah for women to sit Itikhaf?
Ans.
There are many Ahadith which show that the sitting of ladies for Iatikaf is also Sunnah. Hazrat Aisha narrates that
“The Holy Prophet used to sit in Iatikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan till he met his Lord Allah then his wives sat in Iatikaf after him.”
This hadith has been mentioned in Saheeh Bukhari and Muslim. Mishkat Shareef (Qadeemi Kutab Khana - Karachi) Page 183. Whereas ladies will sit for Iatikaf in their homes as says Allama hasan bin Ammar
“Woman will sit for Iatikaf in the mosque of the house, it is a place in her house which has been fixed for prayers by women if she did not fixed it for prayer, the Iatikaf would not be valid and she has been forbidden to come in mosque”.
