Every week some player is having his action reported as being suspect and being too many degrees blah blah…
For the England series Shabbir probably wont play cos of this reason…
For those who bowl themselves…is there actually any conceivable benefit of throwing the ball…do these extra degrees of motion actually help the bowler?..and if they do in what way?..Is it more beneficial to a quickie or spinner?..
Re: Is there actually an advantage of throwing the ball?...
Not a very smart question my friend.
Of course there is :
For a pace bowler...you can hurl an express delivery like a javelin-thrower (aka Shoaib Akhtar)
For a spinner.... you can get that extra bend of the arm to slip in a doosra (e.g. Muralitharan)
btw, Shabbir Ahmed does not need to get his action corrected. He needs to be banned from cricket. He is the chucker of all chuckers. I mean it is so damn friggin obvious that he chucks...every single delivery of his...that it is a shame he continues to be considered for selection. And please I am not saying this because he is a Paki bowler and I am an Indian.
Re: Is there actually an advantage of throwing the ball?...
Add Chucky(Bhajji) Singh to that list as well, Shabbir and Chucky Singh DEFINITELY deserve a life BAN.
Chucky Singh is a could athlete and the way he bowls his doosra, he can easily qualify for Indian " Short Put" team.
Re: Is there actually an advantage of throwing the ball?...
^your comment was predictable since I picked on a Paki player. Guess I cannot be an Indian and be unbiased at the same time.
Re: Is there actually an advantage of throwing the ball?..
maybe you are right, i m yet to see an unbiased Indian in cricket section.
The things is, you picked on Akhtar and Shabbir. Now i do agree with you that Shabbir is just useless and there is just no excuse, he chucks with out any doubt.
Akhtar and Muralitharan at least have medical problems(confirmed by medical reports) unlike Chucky Singh who has horrible action especially when he bowls DOOSRA.
How can you claim to be unbiased??? At least i m accepting that Shabbir chucks!!!
Re: Is there actually an advantage of throwing the ball?...
I have a problem with Shabbir because as far as I am concerned - He chucks every single ball unlike other chuckers. That's it. It has nothing to do with India/Pak/etc.
Harbhajan Singh probably chucks too....but honestly his action does not appear as obviously a "chuck" as Shabbir(may be for certain kind of deliveries)....but then again that is my opinion....you can consider it biased.
Re: Is there actually an advantage of throwing the ball?..
You dont need to chuck to slip in a doosra, Saqlain has been “slipping” it in for many years without chucking.
With Shabbir I agree, there has to be a limit to how many times a bowler can be reported and found guilty of it. He has been reported a few too many times and tried to re-model his action too many times. He just needs to give it up now and we can move on to bowlers who can bowl on a regular basis without giving us the trouble of being reported for chucking.
As far as gaining speed goes Shane Bond and M. Sami are the only genuine quickies without a chucking problem. Lee had been reported as well Akhtar but Sami and Bond have a very celan action and yet they can constantly bowl in the mind 90’s region.
Re: Is there actually an advantage of throwing the ball?...
How about Aqeel of Faisalabad - isn't his action "dubious"?
Re: Is there actually an advantage of throwing the ball?...
I have seen Aqeel and like many offspinners, his action looks bit dodgy.
Re: Is there actually an advantage of throwing the ball?...
We all agree that chucking let's you bowl express deliveries, and we all agree that Shabbir chucks, but Shabbir's pace is anything but express. He's a gentle medium pacer. I can't think why he NEEDS to chuck. He could easily bowl these deliveries with a clean action.
Re: Is there actually an advantage of throwing the ball?...
Most bowlers dont chuck so they can gain more pace out of it, they chuck cause they dont know how to bowl any other way. Shabbir is a medium pacer now but before he was reported the first time for chucking he was a genuine quickie.
Re: Is there actually an advantage of throwing the ball?...
Well then i've gotta learn to chuck during my bowling stride ..... i've tried it a few times and found out that i lost some pace but gained controle ..... maybe chucking itself must be learned first ;)
