to see who is on chat before we log in, you know in case someone is trying to avoid their ex-husband.

But no, just to make sure we don’t walk into an empty room. I am scared of being alone

it is on the right-hand side of this page, on the Quickie bar under features -> audio/video chat

There isn't any such feature at the moment. But if you don't wish to interact with someone on chat, you can add them to your block list.
