Is there a Published writer on GS.

Re: Is there a Published writer on GS.

redvelvet,

Thanks for mentioning my book. Let me clarify that my book is absolutely apolitical in nature. Infact, it is a work of pure literary fiction. Just the fact that its setting is in Iraq and the events are about the current war in Iraq does not make it political in anyway. It should inshallah be available in the bookstores before the end of May. For those interested in reading now, it is available at the following link:
NEITHER A JUST WAR NOR JUST A WAR

Re: Is there a Published writer on GS.

Sorry about that. I don’t remember you saying that your book was fiction. I remembered the title and based on that… assumed it dealt with politics. Thanks for the clarification. And best wishes with your future literary endeavors.

Re: Is there a Published writer on GS.

I do read, PM. It’s just that his post regarding his book was a long time ago and I couldn’t remember all the details.

However, at least, I was able to remember the nick of the guppy who actually IS a published author. So I give myself credit for that…and stick my tongue at you PM BHAI**…**:snooty:

Re: Is there a Published writer on GS.

yeh i wrote fiction for a magazine and i am still writing.....

Re: Is there a Published writer on GS.

i also wrote much of a chapter for a mgmt book as a slave to my prof, sadly while he credited his phd student who helped, he did not give me any credit for work..that arse. I should have sued him :)

Re: Is there a Published writer on GS.

^ That's sad, X2. Profs are usually so big on plagiarism. At the beginning of every course, they always go over the issue and the dire consequences. Ironic.

Re: Is there a Published writer on GS.

I had written a paper on international negotiations. My paper was then taken by his PhD student and he completed the chapter, much of my work went in word for word, to the prof this guy did the work. To be honest he was surprised when I told him that my work was used without me getting any credit while he credits his PhD student for my work. Regardless that was never really corrected and subsequent editions of the book.

It was during a eough patch for me where I was focused on more personal issues and just never really bothered. It was much later that I really felt that I should have pressed him on the issue more.

X2... I had a similar experience with a prof. who engaged me to research and write cases for a textbook he was working on. I was very surprised to see no acknowledgments in the book. Although he was paying me as a research assistant, there was no provision that this was "work for hire", so I was really expecting my name in the front-matter acknowledgments where he had thanked various other people for their help.

Later, when I started working at a different institution, and I was asked by the publisher to review the next edition of the book because that professor had mentioned my name as an expert, I declined straight away! I couldn't believe his nerve!

PM, I'd suggest getting started with trade publications and then making your way to industry/practitioner journals and finally scholarly publications if that interests you.

Writing is a gradual process - you'll improve every time you write and get published, and you learn quite a bit through the peer-review process.

I still remember the first time my journal article got published - felt like a really big accomplishment... five years and multiple publications later including more journal articles and book chapters, it's still an exhilarating experience.

Re: Is there a Published writer on GS.

X2, i think if you still have some sort of proof like things written down in your computer etc you can still go after him.

Sadly it is really common to have grad students "help" write contributions to textbooks. Rarely do they ever receive credit for this.

I have written a few chapters for textbooks, newspaper articles, an article for Azizah, and an article for an industry journal. I would love to have an article published in Foreign Affairs.

Re: Is there a Published writer on GS.

I helped one of my professors with her research which was published in a highly cited respectable journal, I never got credit for it but she did write me a recommendation letter and I also got to put my research contributions in my cv(resume).
I don't really like writing, but for one of my classes we were required to do a retrospective study and that was published in a journal and I got credit for it. The study was lot of tedious work, but at least it was published with my name on it along side the professor's.

Re: Is there a Published writer on GS.

I had a couple of poems published when i was younger, around the ages of 10, and then again at 17.

Re: Is there a Published writer on GS.

on the brite side lucid and X2 that must've given you added confidence in yourselves? i mean not only you got ripped but they person who ripped you was phd Prof. somewhat cool in a twisted way.
