Is there a limit ?

to what money can or can’t buy
The uber’rich Dubai shiekhs have bought one of the largest cruise liners in the world and it would sail no more. They are going to convert it into a luxary hotel.

I dont know who their ADVISOR is on these issues. They could have built any luxary hotel, the largest the tallest the deepest blah blah blah… but why KILL this ship, that perhaps is a part of lifetime memories for hundreds of thousands of people around the world, who have sailed on it and perhaps would like to relive their honeymoon / vacation / any other occasion and sail again just for the nostalgia…

If this trend continues, maybe tomorrow the same advisor will suggest buying the Pyramids / Sphinx / CN Tower or Meenar e Pakistan, and relocate it to Dubai because they want Dubai to be the center of world tourism…

Not good

Re: Is there a limit ?

works well, they buy the old cruiseliner to make it into a hotel, they use it for tourism and all, the cruise company which was probably going to retire it eventually got enough funds to build more than one state of the art modern cruiseliners.

Its like if I had a taxi business and you offered to pay me $100K for my one of 5 year old cabs. works well for me.

as far as people with memories and all, the ship would eventually need to be decomissioned anyways.

Re: Is there a limit ?

What about the Golden Gate bridge ?
I am sure its pretty old too
Lets sell it to dubai - they can use it to connect burj al arab and this new ship

Re: Is there a limit ?

sure man, if the bridge is so old that you were going to demolish it, sure sell it to the sheikhs and build three bridges for what you get back.

shiekhs can do whatever they want with the old bridge :)

Re: Is there a limit ?

I sorta agree with James Bhaand. While it may make financial sense, it's always sad to see a seaworthy vessel decommissioned. It's lame, but I feel like the ship wasn't given an opportunity to fulfill her destiny.

Re: Is there a limit ?

Now dont start giving them IDEAS :omg:

Re: Is there a limit ?

Re: Is there a limit ?

^ The list is very long, and in the near future we might see the Sydney Opera house, or the Taj, or the Tower Bridge adorning the Dubai skyline

God Forbid

Re: Is there a limit ?

national, historic and religious monuments is a diff story than objects which may have some value but

I do expect them to try and buy stuff like an old concord and have that be turned into a restaurant, and gimicks like that.

Dubai seems to be going the direction of vegas...over the top, and may I add..gaudy.

Re: Is there a limit ?

yar.. simple thing thats striking my mind is, that u're more mad than ... errrmmm.. i dunno .. feeling-the-curiosity .. i would be too if my honeymoon was spent on that ship and after retiring i could no longer go there..
