IS the US a one party state?

Consider…the neo cons control all the large population centre states (florida, NY, california)and the majority ofstate legislatures, the press is either openly supportive or cowed, both houses of Congress are in the hands of the neo cons (and the Democrats have very little chance of winning the lower house because of gerry mandering of district boundaries) and finally the Judiciary is gonna be stuffed with neo con supporters.

Re: IS the US a one party state?

neo-cons dont control NY and Calif, these states are traditionally democratic.

Re: IS the US a one party state?

^ With Republican Governors..

Re: IS the US a one party state?

These states went to the democratic candidates in presidential elections for as long as im aware of.

Re: IS the US a one party state?

oh and btw, neo-cons are not necessarily republicans and vice versa althought its easy make that connection under the current govt.

Re: IS the US a one party state?

Nah the US doesn't know how to party esp FOB's like 5abi, they think hanging out in the mall is the height of sophistication, which of course it is if you just dropped off a banana boat. :)

Re: IS the US a one party state?

hahahahahah.NY and Calif, neo-cons and that too republican…hahahahahahah

How old are you? really!!! hahahahahah

Re: IS the US a one party state?

If Arnold is a neo-con, then he is a very bad one.

Having said that, as far as the federal government goes, Zakk has a point. Though just because John Roberts is appointed to SC, doesn't really swing the scales, as Sandra Day O'Conner (though a swing vote in many close decisions) was originally appointed by President Ronald Reagan, who was also a staunchly right-wing president. So Bush appointing a replacement is really a continuation of the same traditions. Plus, I am not sure anyone at this point knows enough about Roberts personal views on key differentiating issues to make a conclusion as to what kind of SC judge he will be. Writing a "Friend of the COurt" brief because he's paid to do that, is hardly conclusive. Plus looking at Souter's example, even Presidents can get it wrong (especially Bushes). So liberals should not write off SC so quickly.

I think the balance of power shifted very strongly in favor of Republicans essentially in 2002 mid-term elections. That is when you began to see the so-called neo-con agenda taking shape.

Re: IS the US a one party state?

What is the Neo Con agenda Faisal? What do you have against the University of Chicago?

Re: IS the US a one party state?

^
They current ones in power are full of sh1t?

Re: IS the US a one party state?

^ Is that their agenda or characteristic?

Re: IS the US a one party state?

well effectively the US is a one party state.. the electoral system is constructed to keep two parties in play with the role of the third party being a party-pooper at best.. and not a viable option.. this way if u control both political parties you control policy.. regardless of the side of the aisle you sit in congress..

it's reflected by how corporations evenly contribute to both parties.. the same 'liberal media' has probably given more do the Bush campaign than the Gore or Kerry campaigns..

Re: IS the US a one party state?

Well that is my point..when a system of checks and balances break down you are either fast moving towards or already have reached the stage of one party in domination of all branches of the central government. One stat i read stated that because of gerry mandering of districts barely 20% of Congressional seats in the US are competitive for the Democrats

Re: IS the US a one party state?

:hehe:

Btw, yes the US is a one party state, run by the Republocrats.
