All your smilies aside, I think G2mil provided some real insight into the North Korean threat. He has a hell of a lot more military expertise than any of us here. Their opinion regarding social spending in the US military has nothing to do with the subject of the North Korean threat. So please stay on topic.
Myvoice is right, when NK was announced as member of the Axis of Evil, it was played off as nonsense by the anti-American establishment. Now that it is apparent that they belonged on that list, these same American wannabes are now describing the caranage that NK will bring to the US.
Yes. Now what will happen to North Korea now that it has expelled the UN inspectors? Nothing. See the hypocrisy, double standards or just outright fear?
P.S. Sem - what do you think about the “insight” that your right-wing loony site says about the US military being pervaded with communists? And how fitness centres, child care facilities and family camps are dens of Marxist communism.
Today we know that sanctions against North Korea are a possibility.
This is in contrast to the food and heating oil given to that country over the last several years.
A decision now needs to be made. Does North Korea act in the interest of its people and discontinue its development of nuclear weapons? Many on Gup are big propenents of the sovereignty of nations. So N. Korea, one can infer, has the right to develop more of these weapons. In doing so, they will forfeit the much needed aid given to them. This will be a choice this sovereign nation makes. Further, they are no doubt aware that they may incur economic and arms embargos, likely approved by the U.N. should they continue with their aggressive rhetoric in concert with their weapons development.
My question is this:
What should the U.S. position be? (And please assume for this argument that a real threat to the U.S. and region exists.)
Knock out there nuclear capability militarily.
Apologize for any misunderstanding, and resume oil and food shipments as soon as possible.
Do nothing.
Work with the U.N. and regional powers to solve the impasse diplomatically. (I believe this is currently ongoing).
Work with the U.N. to impose sanctions.
If sanctions are on the horizon, who will be responsible for any increased suffering incurred by the people of N. Korea?
This is the one it would send a srong message to muslim reigemes who are set to attack innocent civilians and also it would allow the US to ensure a loss of WMD's to NK.
NK will NOT attack back, that is suicide against the US and WMD's are the onky option they would have.
Result:
US unharmed
NK beaten
Iraq behaves itself
Islamic right in Checked.
Commit 550,000 troops..Ooops that was done 50 years ago not an option, 4 footers were too much for GI Joes... Now they have nukes and 1 million 4 footers 40 minutes from DMZ.... Hmmmmm let me see........ Play ishmart play down and go screw Iraq coz they don't have nukes.
Difference between the capabilities of the US and the rest of world is too vast. The chinese are smart enough to know to sit back. There economy, the only thing holding the comunist party in power, can't risk it. US would spank the chinese, say we are sorry and get the job done. :)

The North Koreans seem to have learned that lesson, which others should heed. Notice how all of NK's neighbours - Great China, South Korea and now Russia have all come out against (economic) sanctions against Pyongyang. But you have to admire North Korea's timing - just as America is telling the world about Iraq and its supposed WMD ambitions, here we have North Korea freely flaunting theirs. The American's are left virtually powerless to do anything...:)
But that still doesnt answer the question HOW? does it?
The only reason you cant answer that simple question,is that you would HAVE to agree with me.

What how? You asked HOW they will cope with US since they are short of resources and I stated no they are not.
So what is this how for? Care to explain?
Excerpts from an Op-Ed piece in the New York Times.
Outfoxed by North Korea
*So on the way to war with Iraq, the United States has been caught out by North Korea — which apparently saw its opportunity in our distraction and seized it. This drama is far from over, but with each day North Korea moves closer to its goal of either forcing the administration to negotiate or of enhancing its ability to produce weapons of mass destruction. Either way, the balance of power in the Far East is likely to be upset. If the president negotiates, he will send a message that the key to respectful attention from his administration is blackmail. If he can’t stop North Korea from pursuing its nuclear ambitions, the only effective remedy would be military action.
One political reminder from this episode is the danger that can come from tough talk. When using words as weapons, a leader must be prepared to back up his rhetoric with force. The president’s nomination of North Korea as a member of the “Axis of Evil” in his last State of the Union message now looks like a bluff that is being called. And the outcome of the administration’s diplomacy is that we are preparing to fight a war with a country that might eventually acquire nuclear weapons, while another country is closing in on the ability to go into mass production.*
Everyone should be concerned of NK's posession of WMD. Just to see the US squirm is surely not reason enough to be happy with the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

I'm more concernec about Israel and US having WMDs since one of the states already proofed it can even Nuke other countries with disrespect.
The other is owned by racist military chefs, so why NK the core issue?
Whoa! Im impressed by your wit. Just in case it hasnt hit you yet, we are not discussing NK’s army, but rather the thread of NK’s nukes which dont depend on how starving the army is or what color shades their leader wears
