Well it's not only the Deutsche Bahn (German Railway) but also Deutsche Telekom (German Telecom) and Deutsche Post DHL (German Post & DHL Intl.) where the federal Gov. owns it or holds the Majority ..... the province of Lower Saxony holds a major chunk of Volkswagen Shares yet it's not bankrupt but profitable
So it has a lot to do with what sort of PPL manage it
problem with PPP is that it gives jobs to ppl. (How? its a different story..u can ask PM Gilani abt it). they first look at the franchise thats going good, and then add soooo many ppl to it that the franchise would crumble under its own weight..PIA, Steel Mills are two prime examples. they have given jobs in SNGPL just like that..and it will be our next white elephant.
Problem with ppl is they want govt. jobs coz at govt. jobs they dont have to do anything..and they can always get their salaries..its like tension free way of making a living. PPL are ready to pay 10 lak to an MNA or some corrupt official to get ,even a low paid job.
Hence the while elephants keep growing..and keep eating 'qaumi khazana'.
that was a warning - it didn't actually happen. he was saying if congress doesn't agree to a debt ceiling increase, then he couldn't guarantee that social security checks would be sent out. the measure was approved.
as for unemployment, it is cyclical...it has been much worse at many points in the past. even now the unemployment rate is much lower than in europe.
anyways, the point is that your characterization of the US as being "never so down" is false. perception of weakness and actual weakness can be very different things.
Buddy, if i perceive US as weak economy because its credit rating has been down graded and if the president of the country is saying that they may not be able to meet their obligations because they didn't get the debt then i think that it can be easily said that this is worst time in the US financial history (post WWII)... i actually do not recall, when was the last time US economy was downgraded? any idea?
I would say this is not because PPP wants to destroy Pakistan, it is because the new PPP leader have no experience in running a country, he made govt. by the people he once called killers of his wife but he never had any plans or policy towards the development of above mentioned institutes or any other thing in Pakistan. Result is, the collapse of these and many others organization.
I will disagree with that. Its not like Zardari is supposed to dictate each and every govt policy, its the choice of ministers for the posts who can make/break a decision. The nepotism, favoritism, corruption which resulted in wrong choices for ministeries, otherwise if 'experience of running a country' was the only way to go then why would there be 'elections' around the globe, why didn't long term rulers of other countries make their countries heaven-like?
Because he knows the nation very well. He knows however terribly he loots the country, his kids will still be elected by jiyalas. So khao, piyo, maoj karo…and tension not :nono:
Talking about destruction and not ready to listen for inqalabi construction
Let IK fulfill people’s (jiyalas) dream, and they will never dream for Zardari and his children. I repeat ppl don’t love PPP (specially talking about Sindh), but they don’t have hopes in other parties.
You are still confused. On one hand you love to hate IK, on the other you want him to fulfil jiyalas dream. And all this by giving vote to Zardari and pinning hopes on IK?

I neither love PPP nor hate IK. What matters me most the solution of problems through actions. If IK is capable enough Sindh's politics is open for him and people will welcome him more if he ensure them about the solution without any lotas like Jatoi and Arbab.
I'm not confused at all because I don't have to take side of a party at any cost.
surely the current pakistani govt is awful but to make this a meaningful criticism of a particular party as opposed to the system/country in general, for each point what would've been your preferred course of action during the last 4 years?
further, would these actions have been:
a) feasible?
b) likely to have been taken by a different govt?
c) likely to have been effective remedies in this limited timeframe?
even if the answer to all three is yes (unlikely), have you even asked these questions?
You questions are very intelligent and thought provoking hence you got no reply. I will reply but with no answer though. It is hard to say what actions other governments will have taken.
The cost of living has increased in Pakistan and in the UK, where I live, over the last 10 years. As of 2007 things started to get worse with the onset of the global recession. Costs rose in Pakistan as globally and people started to blame Musharaf's policies, even on this forum. Musharaf was forced to resign and the PPP won the election. If any party had any sense they would not have bothered to campaign for the 2008 election as very god decision making could only make things stable and not worse, the sort of decision makers Pakistan does not have.
Some things were out of their control, others not. Corruption, bad management would have only made a bad situation much worse.
Corruption is a part of Pakistani culture now . We just can't blame PPP for it . Its just that current government is not providing any over sight , and letting bureaucracy do their ''Job'' .
As they say ''Saray mil ka khai jao , uthoon roola pai jao'' :D
