to that in the UK? It can be 24°C in the UK, and I will get a tan if I have about 20 mins complete exposure to the sun. But when I go to Pakistan, I can walk around all day in temperatures much hotter, and I never get tanned. How does that work?!
Isn’t it weird? My Pakistani relatives say yahan ki dhoop chubti hai - it’s not like Pakistan. Maybe it’s something to do with the UK being further away from the equator and relatively closer to the Sun during the Summer (in comparison to continents further South)?
^^ Yes - it would never get 40 C here - I think the hottest ever recorded is like 36 or something lol. But if it was 24 C over there - that’s like winter for you guys, right? Lol. You’d never get burnt/tanned. So why, when it’s the same temperature over here, does it feel hotter?
Have you seen the gen population in pak? We have darker skin naturally. And also there isn’t the culture of sun tanning or walking about in the sun. If you stay out even in the winter sun you will get tanned.
40C in Saudi too at the moment, but we get tanned here if we go out in the sun. My mum tells that she too got a lighter skin tone whenever she went to Pakistan even though she used to play a lot in the sun when in Pak.
in summer, the subcontinent, being closer to the equator as compared to UK which is way up north, has more direct sun on you so it is more intense and has UV value much higher.
not only pakistan but the closer you are to the equator, the sun seems to be much more painful. i dont know if its true scientifically but every time i go to the Caribbean, i end up getting horrible sunburn which never happens in NY. could be that im more exposed to the sun when im on vacation but still, it does feel much worse than here.
