is that bad?

i would like serious opinions on a serious question:

if someone knows from doctors he has high risk of developping a deadly deasease and one way to try to prevent it is taking some medicine
then is it considered suicide if he does not take the medicine?
reason not to take the medicine is that he is healthy so far, but the medicine have nasty sideffects…
please enlighten!

Re: is that bad?

Re: is that bad?

“if someone knows from doctors he has high risk of developping a deadly deasease and one way to try to prevent it is taking some medicine”

in Islaam you should prevent your body from any harm. If one can prevent it he or she must prevent it.

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah has not sent down any disease but He has also sent down a cure for it.”
Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5678.

if by not taking this medicine it will take one deeper in to the disease and death is a possibility and the person knows it is then one must take medicine to avoid it as Allah said in the Qur’aan

"And do not kill yourselves (nor kill one another). Surely, Allaah is Most Merciful to you.And whoever commits that through aggression and injustice, We shall cast him into the Fire, and that is easy for Allaah”[al-Nisa’ 4:29]
