Any sunnah that can put an extra burden on your fardh is no longer a sunnah. That is why we have this hadees
Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet said, "None of you should fast a day or two before the month of Ramadan unless he has the habit of fasting (Nawafil) (and if his fasting coincides with that day) then he can fast that day."
Now keeping this in mind, and keeping in mind that the Taraweeh as we know it is actually combination of two sunnah (praying twenty rakaat after ishaa, and completing at least one Quran during Ramadan), would it not be easy to perform taraaweeh in mosque with short surah, and let people worry about completing their own Quran?
Trying to make people follow two sunnah as almost an obligation, puts the fardh at risk, especially in summer, especially in northern hemisphere.
Yes, here in Doha we just read normally ... There is no reciting of the whole Qur'an in the masjid I attend. However, Makkah and Madinah do complete it and they pray the full 20.
In fact in the areas where there is persisting twilight i.e. regions above the 48 deg lat ... Then they have the permission to combine Maghrib with Isha to maximise the sleep time. Since no Shar'i Isha exists it is all just a calculation anyway. This only applies when the persisting twilight phenomenon occurs and up until it becomes practical to observe the proper events.
As a minimum, if sleep time is necessary then I would pray taraweeh at home and pray Isha back to back with Maghrib, but only when persisting twilight occurs.
To almost contradict what I said earlier ... For those people who wish to gain unveilings and spiritual heights they will endure and perform the extra prayers with passion and constancy. The fruits of ma'rifa and rida come only with a lot of hard work ... But when it comes to others around us we should be seeking for valid ways to make things easier.
This is where shari'ah and tariqah depart from one another ... One argument is that Sunnah puts a burden on the faraid, the other argument is that Sunnah enables the quality of the faraid ...
Like exercise ... Do more practice get better at it, but don't too much exercise that you lose essential weight and power. The balance of the two must be maintained and you are the best judge of that.
nope...taraaveeH is NOT fard so it can be omitted. however, it's better to offer taraaveeH because it's the month of blessings and reap as many blessings as you can. you or i may NOT be able to see another Ramadhan...life is so uncertain! good Luck and may Allah accept our Ibaadaat. aameen
since we do NOT have a masjid near by, whenever we pray at home we use last 10 suras twice [from alam tara kai'fa...to...qul aauzobinnaas].

Please don't kill me for sharing my thoughts :(
How would everyone manage to recite their own Qur'an in their taraweeh at home? Then everyone would have to become hafiz, which seems harder than catching it behind a hafiz imam. If you're referring to the Fajr being put at risk, here we get back from taraweeh around 12:30AM and most people, even those who work, get their Fajr most if not all the time.

Everyone can recite Quran at home separately, and do taraaweeh in mosque with short surah.
how can that be a sunnah brother? Prophet Muhammad :saw: never had taraweeh prayers in congregation, let alone following someone in that prayer who was reciting Quran. in fact when sahaba gathered in the mosque for him to come out and have taraweeh prayers in jamaat, he did not come out of the house to discourage them.
I have heard from ulema that completing the Qur’an in Taraweeh as well as making 20 rakaat are both independent sunnahs. Now if what you’re saying here is true, then why is it an issue in the first place? According to this (considering the practice was not later changed), Taraweeh would be done at home individually anyway, so whether people are reciting 1,2,3,5 or whatever number of juz in the masjid wouldn’t make any difference. Allahu Alam

This is very interesting. Living in North America, I know that it can take anywhere between 10 minutes to an hour to drive back home from masjid. I am just curious as to what time do most of the people in your area get back home?
There is a option of reducing to surah taraweeh. The way it is practicesed in gulf is not correct in my opinion so i go for 20 rikaat at home of my friend.
One is best judge of his circumstances.
but it is recomended to do as much ibadat(with quality not just Quantity) as one can in this blessed month.
i like to read this book to get some motivation in ramadan
