Im no fan of Shoaib, but there are a lot of players, who our board has messed with, by not giving them consistent time and exposure on the pitch, and then when they under-perform, they are blamed. People cry out for Afridi all the time, but he too has had plenty of stretches where he has been dud with the bowling. Hes always been a dud with batting.

Asad Shafiq is being victimised. He was the star of the world cup and deserves to be in the side ahead of Farhat at least.
Malik has bowled well but to be honest his off-spin is not really necessary considering we have two other very good off-spinners and a leg-spinner, two of whom can bat (Hafeez, Afridi)
On present form, Malik is not even worth a place in the squad let alone the side.
Even today Asad should have played instead of Malik or Farhat. Makes one wonder if there is some outside pressure on the team to continually pick Malik despite his moronic failures.

As per Ijaz butt, almost every day he used to receive a call from some political figure pressuring him to select Malik in the team. Pakistani cricket has seen many player-politicians but Shoaib Malik will rate among the top.
I really feel for Asad and his insecurities in presence of Damad and Malik

His career is a long way from being over.
People need to get off their fascination with who he married...thats his personal life and none of anyones business.
As far as his game goes, there is no doubt that he has under-performed since returning to the team. It's normal that he is feeling a bit insecure considering he was out of the side, and his form and confidence is not there at the moment.
That said, he is still a good player and an asset in ODI and T20s. He is still under 30 and it would be a waste to drop him.
All he needs is a good innings with the bat out in the middle and that is just around the corner.
I'd like to ask where the Malik haters were when it was Younis Khan who was having a dreadful run with the bat? Or when it was Misbah who was in the same boat? At that point, people kept saying Younis needs a good knock and he'll be fine, so why are there double standard for Malik? Because he's friends with a Minister and his wife is Sania Mirza? Gimme a break.
All players go through rough patches, its part of the game, doesent mean their careers should be over. As for having political contacts, everyone has them. It's called living in Pakistan.

We know Shoaib Malik has major pawwa. Shoaib Malik on his best day, was never in the same class as Younus Khan or Misbahul Haq as a batsman.

Since his 128 against India in the 2009 Champions Trophy, Shoaib Malik has gone 14 innings without a fifty, with a highest of 39.

When it comes to test cricket, Younis and Misbah are in a different class no doubt about it.
Champions trophy knock aside, Malik's best run as a player came when he was the Captain. Since Bufoon Butt removed him from the Captaincy, Malik has not been the same player - lots of in and outs from the team have obviously played their role in his lack of confidence.
However, as I said - he deserves to be in the ODI and T20 team, and he is just an innings away from regaining his form and confidence, because he has always had the ability in the short form of the game, haters can hate, but his record is as good as anyone else in the Pakistani side today. None of them are Saeed Anwar's or Inzamam's - all of the current crop hang around in the mid-30s with their averages these days, and so does Malik.

Misbah as non-captain averaged 42.60 in batting
Shoaib Malik as non-captain averaged 33.48
Misbah as captain averages 50.28
Shoaib Malik as captain averaged 43.75
Though Misbah has played 13 ODIs as captain and S Malik played 36 ODIs but even as 'non-captain' Misbah rated much better as batsman.

Malik has 7 ODI 100s compared to Misbah's grand total of Zero. 5 of Malik's ODI 100s have resulted in Pakistan winning the match.
He can be a match winner. However, at present his confidence is low, he should be encouraged and in fact should be opening because almost all his 100s have come at the top of the order.
Its not a very smart move to put a player low on confidence in the middle order, on slow tracks facing spinners - when the player himself is more comfortable going up the order.
