Re: Is Qawwali entertainment ok for a wedding ???

I think a qawwali would be great and very celebratory!

Re: Is Qawwali entertainment ok for a wedding ???

um..i hate qawqalies, but if you like them, then sure.

Re: Is Qawwali entertainment ok for a wedding ???

Re: Is Qawwali entertainment ok for a wedding ???

I don’t know about Lahore, but Farid Ayaz Qawwal in Karachi is pretty famous…they’re supposedly the descendants of one of the most prominent Qawwali gharanas and their ancestors have been performing for over 700 years. I’ve been to a couple performances in the US and I really like them…they’re actually who I was thinking about getting for my mehndi. Apparently their father was also a famous Qawwal who performed at my parent’s wedding in Lahore 30+ years ago.

Fareed Ayaz Qawwal and Party.

Re: Is Qawwali entertainment ok for a wedding ???

well usually after dinner, the family is going to be saying bye to the dulhan so it is a solemn atmosphere. so a qawwal won't fit such an atmosphere. maybe you can have one on the mehndi or walima.

Re: Is Qawwali entertainment ok for a wedding ???

Every family, dulha and dulhan is different, the Ruksati's aren't always very sad, it helps to lighten the atmosphere and give some gaiety to the event. A Qawwali is a great idea! I think you should make your event the way you want it. If it's unique/classy then why not?

Re: Is Qawwali entertainment ok for a wedding ???

Yup, it would really be a great idea! But, will you opt for the traditional sit down qawwali or for the Bollywood song and dance type?

Re: Is Qawwali entertainment ok for a wedding ???

thanks janab =)
i was thinkin to do a sitting down one, not a dancey number as it won't look good. it would be nice have some light qawwali's in the background during and after the food when photos r being taken, with some nice sitar sounds etc, im not planning anything loud or OTT =S something very light and classy hopefully...
plus im getting married to my bhabi's lil bro so the families r well acquainted

Re: Is Qawwali entertainment ok for a wedding ???

i wud say go for it!! i planed it for my own wedding but sumhow it wint workout cuz my inlaws r not realy qawali fans the reason u shud also hav it at the wedding is cuz wen ppl come and they havto wait for the baraat to come and then the nikkah to take place which takes ages and they usualy get realy bored u can tel by there faces wen there looking at the empty buffets waiting for the food so they can make a run rite after it.. so any source of musical entertainment wud keep them busy u kno u can hav sessons obviously stop the qawali at the nikah time and then continue it after dinner but neva start a qawali after dinner always hav it b4 cuz half the ppl wud hav already left no1 wants to stay more then 2am :P

If that's what you're looking for, then I'd recommend that you find qawwali CDs that you like and play those at your wedding. Generally speaking, its expected that the performers will be the center of attention at a live qawwali performance (especially considering the fact that this is technically religious music)...it will likely be seen as disrespectful half your guests are busy in the buffet lines etc.

Re: Is Qawwali entertainment ok for a wedding ???

Riyaaz Qawwali is the first qawwali group in the United States. Based in Texas, they are available for sangeets, weddings, receptions, waleemas.

Interesting. It’s a little surprising that there isn’t a single Muslim name in the group, and yet they chose this very Islamic genre. Good for them!

Re: Is Qawwali entertainment ok for a wedding ???

I went to a wedding where they had it. Sheraton in KHI actually have that option.. they have their own singers.. qawal type.. sitting with sitars and that briefcase thing.. (lol)... It was very nice elegant wedding but if you plan to do something continous throughout the whole event.. no one will listen to it.... People move around... food.. meeting others.. that's it.. poor singers/qawal are just ignore unless they keep the crowd involved somehow.

Re: Is Qawwali entertainment ok for a wedding ???

AWSOME idea!!! :D i think it wud be very classy....id say rahat himself wud be pricey....but i wudnt mind...haha u've given me some ideas ;) thanks!!! and good luck...u shud defo go with it!....
