Is perpetual boredom a disease?

:frowning:

I think I am suffering from it. Even if I am doing things I love, I get bored fast.

Do you think people like that can never give their 100% and are doomed to be mediocre at best at everything they do? :frowning:

Re: Is perpetual boredom a disease?

^ That is the story of my life these last two years! I feel like I've been shortchanging my obligations because my boredom means I'm not fully committed to giving my all.

Help!

Re: Is perpetual boredom a disease?

Could it be a coping mechanism to avoid being a confirmed failure? I mean, instead of putting all your efforts to something and getting less than stellar results thus realizing your shortcomings, you just dump it all on being bored and giving up midway.

Re: Is perpetual boredom a disease?

^ It's apathy and indifference on my part, rather than fear of failure.

Re: Is perpetual boredom a disease?

A lot of people go through such phases. I guess it all depends on how long it lasts and what type of person you are. Do you need to constantly be doing things to keep occupied, or can you be alone and not mind? And don't sell yourself short, if you give your all on a task, you should feel happy with that despite the less than stellar result. Or maybe your expectations of the result are too high.

Re: Is perpetual boredom a disease?

For me I am quite sure its the fear of realizing that I am not as good as I'd like myself to believe. Like partyslims mentioned it is most likely because of the high expectations of the results that I have. I want to be an einstein with pamela anderson's brain.

What could've brought on the apathy and indifference in you?

Re: Is perpetual boredom a disease?

I think my problem is that I'm fickle :(
Maybe that's why I get bored

Re: Is perpetual boredom a disease?

Like a hypochondriac, yeah I see this symptom in me as well :(

Re: Is perpetual boredom a disease?

I am beemar with a bigger disease… procrastination. :hinna:

Re: Is perpetual boredom a disease?

Alright now stop it, I see all of these in me! :crying:

Re: Is perpetual boredom a disease?

Having met certain goals, now I don't have the same drive to seek out new challenges. I've become complacent and unwilling to stretch myself out of my comfort zone. Problem is, remaining in my comfort zone, I don't meet the previously met challenges with the same interest.

Re: Is perpetual boredom a disease?

Well, most of us do float within our comfort zones, but then not everyone suffers from boredom. Maybe those who dont, have incorporated some key interests in their routines, which us perpetually bored might have as well, but for us either the challenges were not sufficient or we are still waiting for our calling.

My story :hinna:

Re: Is perpetual boredom a disease?

A disease today, might just end up being the best thing a day later. Cherish it. Just don't forget to cash in when the opportunity comes begging.

As the wise one once said. Build up your weaknesses until they become your strong points. Cant see a reason why not to follow the same school of thought. There's a just better day ahead, always is.
