Like most Ali Zafar fans, I hope that members of our culture ministry and Central Board of Film Censors spend the weekend remembering that Pakistanis have a highly developed sense of humour (consider, for instance, how they are ever willing to laugh off the antics of our parliamentarians).

If it is upheld, the government’s decision to ban screenings of Tere binLaden will be the latest in a series of terrible ideas pertaining to the Pakistani media landscape.

Censors have argued that the film could offend Muslims, make Osama bin Laden seem “ridiculous”, and stir the wrath of violent extremists. None of these estimations, however, are compelling enough to justify censorship. May I remind our authorities that it is not their place to decide what Pakistani audiences may find offensive, but that they are responsible for ensuring security at public venues such as cinemas?

Much has already been written about our government’s increased willingness to censor content on a flimsy pretext. In March, the culture ministry banned Ajoka Theatre’s satirical production, Burqavaganza, on the basis that it “pollutes young minds”. In May, YouTube and Facebook were blocked for hosting ‘blasphemous’ and ‘offensive’ content. It is now July, and Tere bin Laden seems fated to be next in the firing line.

It is highly imperative for Pakistan to look at aggregate of all past Pakistani experiences with India ----- Sharp projection of Indian motives, their (India’s) collective hidden political agenda against Pakistan spanning over more than sixty years and especially their subterfuge after September 11, 2001 which was aggressively put forward to conceal true purpose and objective of this terrorism chorus. After September 11, India astutely embarked on the bandwagon of mostly false propaganda against Islam and Pakistan to achieve its political goals in Asia and to promote its image around the world as a victim of all times these so called movies and comedy shows that were banned by Pakistan are part of slow but gradual Indian conspiracy against Pakistan therefore this Indian filth must not only be outlawed in Pakistan but, also those Pakistanis who facilitated in creation of these so called comedies must be dealt with an iron hand as prescribed by the law of the land.

**How can faithful Pakistanis in their right minds facilitate India with its never ending propaganda against Pakistan?

“It is clear that these bans constitute gross violations of Pakistanis’ freedom of expression. Seen in the broader context of the government’s recent announcement of a new code of conduct for the media, the bans begin to highlight a troubling trend: space for thoughtful, informed and productive debates about extremism and terrorism in Pakistan is shrinking. While our government encourages dialogue with terrorists at the proverbial negotiating table, it seems hell-bent on stifling any dialogue about terrorists in the public sphere.”

There is a fine line here which obviously author has failed to acknowledge ----- there must be a firm and illustrious difference between hummer and blasphemy and impious utterance concerning religious beliefs, wouldn’t be so called “Freedom of Speech” considered conspicuously Anti-Semitic and Anti-Zion if a Muslim speaks out against Judaism and Zionism? ----- perhaps it would be considered a global hot-button political issue.

If there exists ----- for any one and every one across the board ----- such “Freedom of Speech” ----- then why was Senior Editor of Mideast Affairs Octavia Nasr fired by CNN after her Tweet in praise of Hezbollah leader Sayyed Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah? ----- **You be the judge!

Dear Mods I would like to request a poll.

Re: Is Pakistan's decision to ban Tere binLaden a bad idea?

They should ban all the other Bollywood movies releasing in Pakistani theaters as well.

I am a bit perplexed here ----- is that a comment, a statement or simple sarcasm?

Whole heartedly agree. Pakistan does not need that filth from a nation that does not miss any opportunity to cause terrorism in Pakistan.

Domestic Film Industry and Television industry should instead strive to make good productions that attract public while maintaining Pakistani identity with Pakistani culture in mind.

Pakistan should not ban "Tere Bin Laden"..its not the case of Patriotism...if they wanna to ban this film then a similar ban should also be imposed on Indian Movies..but as a nation we should now show maturity in our atitude..
Regards,
Rameen Asad,

Re: Is Pakistan's decision to ban Tere binLaden a bad idea?

Dumbass government. They should allow the movie to be shown. Bowing down to the crazy lunatics in our society is not the way to go.

Re: Is Pakistan's decision to ban Tere binLaden a bad idea?

I'd say the ban is stupid, as long as government can ensure that the theater showing the movie would not be a terrorist target. But then, we've had attacks on GHQ!

Re: Is Pakistan's decision to ban Tere binLaden a bad idea?

any form of culture should never be banned, period.

Re: Is Pakistan's decision to ban Tere binLaden a bad idea?

god, these people like banning everything dont they, just like bijli, atta and cheeni is banned.....so is pretty much everythign else. they dont understand that people will get to see the film on pirate through the black market anyway, so how is it effective. did banning facebook bring anything out of it? did people quit facebook, no, just waited until the ban was over and were back on it again.

Re: Is Pakistan’s decision to ban Tere binLaden a bad idea?

Still banning is the right thing to do. :jhanda:

If Pakistani’s want this sorta thing why not make it themselves… the people have spoken. :smash:

Ban kardo Bollywood ko!

I reckon this movie has something to do with Osame Bin laden??

If so,i understand why Pakistan wants to block it…

And as far as FACEBOOK goes,THAT SHOULD BE BLOCKED EVERYWHERE  (Not very good)

Thats exactly right!

Its quite responsible of Pakistan to keep bad influences from the USA and everywhere else out!! (Nothing wrong with that)

Re: Is Pakistan’s decision to ban Tere binLaden a bad idea?

^ Agreed :k:

Re: Is Pakistan's decision to ban Tere binLaden a bad idea?

Why are they running other movies in Pakistani theatres then? Why are indian movies and behuda songs available everywhere. The ONE movie where we have a pakistani actor as the main character and where the plot is not even anti-pakistan, then WHY THE BIG DEAL???

Pakistan is so messed up.

Re: Is Pakistan’s decision to ban Tere binLaden a bad idea?

I agree all Indian films should be banned.

It’s sad that they are not… but each release will be met with same hatred from me. :salute:

banned or not, Ali Zafar ( I saw his interview on some indian channel today) thinks he’s some super star … oh wait… he always thought that :phati:

The government cannot guarantee there would be no bombing of theaters showing the movie. Not much to do with the fact that it is an Indian movie.

Don’t you read about people killed for only being ‘suspected’ of blasphemy?

Yes, Pakistan is messed up.

BAN BAN BAN

You don't even seem to know the difference between culture and the ideology.
