Is Pakistan the 2nd best team in the world? My foot.

Re: Is Pakistan the 2nd best team in the world? My foot.

Here's my take on the whole situation.

On any given day Pakistan can be given supreme status. In the first match of the champions trophy which most seem to forget, the Pakistanis, without Inzi Shoaib or Asif beat the Sri Lankan's handily. Sri Lanka did not have a good tournament either, but do note that they DID also win one match against a team Pakistan lost again. The second match was also in Pakistan's hand against New Zealand. If it wasn't for the poor captaincy in the last 10 overs of the New Zealand innings, The New Zealanders would have struggled to make 240. Pakistan made 228 and ended up losing by 50 odd runs because of 10 overs of the match. The last match against South Africa was a simple disaster. Actually, their bowlers did what they could, and probably would have done better given the pitch if we had Shoaib and Asif. South Africa took advantage of their amazing bowling attack and basically outclassed them in THAT match.

If you ask any team, they would not take Pakistan lightly on any given day. Teams take pride in beating Pakistan. Having said that, Pakistan is nor the 2nd best team nor the 6th best team. Even with Shoaib, Asif and Inzimam Pakistan has been known to struggle. Without the three, others have at times stepped up and at times not.

You all have to remember that Pakistan has been an inconsistent side for decades. They surprise others with their talent all the time, and at times surprise others of the lack of focus and commitment in a particular match or tournament.

Many say we miss Inzi now, but in these same forums in 2003 when Pakistan came back from South Africa at the World Cup, they were asking him to be dropped and never be brought back. Some were even asking for his retirement, and today we are all MISSING Inzi. Every team, every player has their days.

Australia has by far been the only CONSISTENT team Cricket has seen, followed by South Africa. India, England, New Zealand, Pakistan are all at between ranked 3-4, while West Indies shows signs of improvement at times. Remember, only some time ago Pakistan thrashed West Indies when they visited them and did the exact same thing to England when England visited Pakistan last year. As for India, Pakistan has won in India, and India has won in Pakistan. Go figure. And as for New Zealand, Pakistan has had excellent success against them as well apart from the champions trophy match in October. Pakistan also has not played Australia for ages, and definetely not on a tour of either country. If Pakistan were to play Australia given the current lineup plus shaoib, asif and Inzi, they would give the Aussies a run for their money hands down.

Who says Pakistan didn’t win this year, FYI Pakistan won the series by 1-0

True that some of these players are not easy to replace and some of them will never be replaced. However, they may struggle once these players retire; however the Australian cricket with their set up and quality of coaching at their academy will keep on producing good quality players and I think they will keep on getting the results.

I think Pakistan is likely to struggle more compared to Australia when their key players retire. This is simply because the way cricket system (including everything else which goes with it) in Pakistan is organised and the lack of quality coaching means that players are not polished enough or mentally strong enough when playing intertional cricket (unless they find similar players such as Waqar, Akram, Anwar by luck).

There is no denying that Australians bring their replacements after grooming, polishing, thwacking and training. We have been relying on talent alone for decades, not just last 1 or 2 decades.... that comparison is sorta out of equation (though it should be corrected).

Re: Is Pakistan the 2nd best team in the world? My foot.

The question is do Pakistan need to be the best or second best team? The issues we have in hand is to correct some of our technical flaws in the player and be a little more consistant.

And above all PROFESSIONALISM is lacking from management to Captain to Afridi to Akhtar to Younis. We need to address this. This is the biggest issue at hand.

Other than that, we are playing good cricket with the resources available.

Re: Is Pakistan the 2nd best team in the world? My foot.

Again no doubt Pakistan has relied upon individual talents to produce the results for the last couple of decades. Before that as you may already be aware they had number of players who used to play county cricket which helped to develop them as better cricketers.

Everyone keep s talking about individual or naturally talented players being produced in Pakistan and I am not denying this fact.

However, one thing I still can't understand is why we are not seeing such players being made available for Pakistan these days?

Personally, I think one of the reasons is the team hierarchy especially the clever captain of Pakistan being too defensive and seems not to keen on taking risks with young players being introduced into the senior team.

If Inzi had seen someone exceptionally good young player than he should have used his influence as a captain of the side to bring that player into the reckoning. Instead what we have seen on numerous occasions the likes of chacha Arshad being brought back.

As has been discussed many times in other threads same sort of players are being brought back when the others fail. I can't really name one outstanding player being produced from Pakistan over the last 5 years who would be truly be labelled as true World class talent or at least has the ability to become one - apart from Mohammed Asif. Please correct me if I have left any out.

No doubt Pakistan will keep on relying on individual talent for the results but the right talent needs to be available and selected not like some of the current jokers.

Re: Is Pakistan the 2nd best team in the world? My foot.

^ Rock_Express, I agree, there needs a lot to happen in Pakistan cricket.... but right now the discussion is about teams (current lot).

Re: Is Pakistan the 2nd best team in the world? My foot.

Current lot.........simply no way as no 2 in the World.

Re: Is Pakistan the 2nd best team in the world? My foot.

^ it "was" with Inzi, Asif and Shoaib..... for sometime atleast.

Re: Is Pakistan the 2nd best team in the world? My foot.

^ yes and InshAllah it will rise again, Shoaib or no Shoaib...I mean we all remember the days after Imran retired and we had captains changing like people changing clothes...
and then the salim malik thing... things seemed to be low and low...even though we had superstars in our team...
so InshAllah they will rise again...

Re: Is Pakistan the 2nd best team in the world? My foot.

Ok...Let me explain it to you dummys once again.. :D When Professor F&B is lecturing, just forget about ICC ranking and listen to him..
When it comes to ODIs..This is what the ranking is..
1. AUS
2. SA
3. PAK,IND,SL,NZL,WI
8. ENG
9. ZIM, BANG

What it means is that ...all the 5 times IND, SL,PAK,NZL & WI are almost equal in strength and when they play each other they have 50-50 chance of win and loss. SA and AUS are few notches above. When they play these 5 teams ratio increases to 70 and 80 percent respectively. :D

Now when it comes to test matches.. This is the ranking
1. AUS
2. SA, SL(Murali factor)
4. PAK(Shoib and Asif factor),IND,ENG(Flintoff factor),WI,NZL
5. ZIM,BANG

Now...My prediction will be proved true in next few months..when you will see asses of India and Eng being kicked left right and center by SA and AUS respectively. Where as WI and Pak will play a close series with Pak having some home advantage which will be nullified by absence of Shoib and Asif.

So exciting series to watch for would be Pak vs WI. But for you pakistanis India vs SA series will also be fun as you would get to see some serious Indian ass kicking and fcking etc etc. They will not win a single ODI or Test and in one of the test matches this team will be out for less than 100. :D

Re: Is Pakistan the 2nd best team in the world? My foot.

Indeed, Glen McGrath is the world's best bowler ever that the opening batsmen find him hard to play against.

Re: Is Pakistan the 2nd best team in the world? My foot.

Exactly, I never said who is the 2nd best specifically. The 2nd position varys from time to time. Before it was South Africa, then Pakistan came, Sri Lanka (sometimes) and India came for once too. But West Indies is unrankable team in my opinion and they can beat sometimes any team.

Re: Is Pakistan the 2nd best team in the world? My foot.

I know one thing, most of the time Pakistani Team is among TOP 3 which makes it a great team.

We have superb bowling & batting records
A lot of our players are honored by other teams as well as nations.
**We are inventors of so many techniques & strategies. **
Only our team knows how to play the best under stress - and we have proved it so many times.

Anyone who knows a little about cricket - knows Pakistan Team

We are proud of our team - no matter what happens. This is just a bad phase and we know we will come out of it successfully.
