Is Paki music going commercial?

When the pop scene initially broke out, there was some trash produced and some innovating stuff…and things got more experimental and interesting…but today, I am seeing a much more commercial approach.

Videos are all looking like each other and the more glamour the better it is. Forget the storyboard and technique! If your video doesn’t look like Sanu Tere Naal Pyar Ho Gaya, dude, you’re just not going to make it! And there had better be a hot model in every other frame, otherwise people will switch channels. Right.

I mean, the quality is better in terms of picture clarity, etc. But I dont see too many new ideas coming forth. Some good songs get wasted with bad videos and some good videos get wasted with bad songs.

Lyrics are all run of the mill. Why can’t people write meaningful and original lyrics. If I have to hear about another “o mujhe pyar ho gaya” qissa or “woh itni khoooooooooobsoooooooorat haiiiii” claim, I’ll have to break the cd. Is that all there is to sing about? And even if you sing about love, is a girl’s eyes and chaal the only thing that comes to the lyricist’s mind??

Furthermore, let me not even get into how the art of bhangra is being abused and battered by every other “singer” or “band” who thinks that by using the same old beat with the words “naal” “vich” and “mainu” and “tainu” repeated at least a million times/minute is going to guarantee them fast success! Grrr.

  1. punjabi is a beatiful language and I’d like to hear some expanded vocabulary in the lyrics for once.
  2. not everyone can do punjabi!
  3. why the hell is everyone abandoning urdu? Its not like everyone in Pakistan is punjabi or that no one will listen to a song in urdu! Urdu, too, is a beautiful language and one can go far if they try the slightest to explore it. Its called work, and some of these people dont want to do it!

And while we’re on languages, why can’t we move past urdu and punjabi as our only options? Why not make a pop song in pushto? I mean, Rahim Shah produced a whole album that was really great. But then, even he abandoned it. What about Sindhi? Or even Seraiki or Gujrati, or Hindko, or Memoni or Balochi, or the million other languages spoken in Pakistan???

Grrrr…

What do you guys think?

my my, ur very cranky 2day :stuck_out_tongue:
time of the month?

I agree that they are going commercial but I dont see anything wrong with it.. As long as there is quality music who cares if its commercial or not..

But its prob. good for Pakistan’s entertainment industry.

What I hate is the fact that every damn lalloo has a video and song..

Pop music has always been commercial. It isn't meant to be heavy or meaningful.

Pop music is for the masses. As a rule of thumb, anything that attracts a large portion of the population is bound to go commercial.

As a personal opinion, I hate to see products being shown during song videos or movies.

punjabi albums sell more.. everyone has to accept the hard truth sooner or later.. or their labels get them to understand...

Last night saw fakhir jumping up and down on some semi punjabi song and I thought why does everyone think they have to emulate Abrar??

I liked these Awaz guys. they had their own style, but individually they'll both soon be wearing black blazers and abondaning their jumping jack moves to stand in front of the mike.. just like Abrar.

Agreed PA. What makes Abrar so good is that he is so different to what's already out there and he definitely has his own style.

let me guess.. he was singing sabtho soniay…

I like that song :hoonh:

Yeh kiya hai??

BTW, did you cancel your prime subscription already:mocking:

u’re right.. and now that u’ve reminded me, it isn’t even his song.. rehashing old punjabi movie songs is very unlike someone who was a part of Awaz.. i’m very disappointed.
