Is only alcohol haraam or gettin intoxicated also??

Hi all

I need your views on the topic , that only alcohol is haraam or any kind of substance which give us feeling of intoxication is also harraam for all muslims …

Re: Is only alcohol haraam or gettin intoxicated also??

**the key word here is FOG the mind...so, anything that FOGS ur mind is Haraam EXCEPT when its medically absolutely necessary. and anything that can cause that effect on ur mind is Haraam....in any quantitiy....and, again except when its medically needed.

thats why, anything to do with these mind altering substances is Haraam from cultivation to transportation to distribution to selling and serving ... anything...one example is...growing grapes for wine purposes is Haraam, transporting it is also Haraam and so on so forth. grapes are otherwise a Halaal thing.**

Re: Is only alcohol haraam or gettin intoxicated also??

so weed, heroin and cocaine are also haram right???

Re: Is only alcohol haraam or gettin intoxicated also??

YES, indeed...no doubt about it :)

Re: Is only alcohol haraam or gettin intoxicated also??

that's what i've been telling my friends all along but they argue that since only alcohol has been mentioned in the holy quran, only alcohol is haram.. i told them that anything that makes u drunk or high i.e. intoxicated, is haram regardless of if u drink it or smoke it..

**
u r right my friend...tell them again and let them decide...May Allah show them the right path...aameen**

Re: Is only alcohol haraam or gettin intoxicated also??

Yes i completely agree to brothers,...but i also got the same problem in explaining to many muslim friends about how Allah subahantallah has banned any kind of fog... or intoxication.

But still many muslims take a sneak corner out by saying tht smoking is not haraam as it is not mentioned in holy quran... i guess they still continue smoking even after knowing fact tht it is haraam.

May allah show them true path.

Re: Is only alcohol haraam or gettin intoxicated also??

^ I think smoking cigarettes is not haram, as it does not effect your decision making abilities.

Re: Is only alcohol haraam or gettin intoxicated also??

i'll hav to agree wid khalil khan fakhta that cigarettes r not haram.. i don't smoke but i'm just sayin coz i've observed that even if ppl smoke a whole pack of cigarettes in a little while, they're still normal n not outta their minds like ppl who smoke other tobacco products or drink alcohol products..

Re: Is only alcohol haraam or gettin intoxicated also??

so does that mean tht only those things which makes us to loose our decision making ability is only haraam???

**
YES, and those things that are declared Haraam already which are a few...its classified as as follows which i know

Haraam = totally forbidden
makrooH = very close to being prohibited but still allowed
taba'ii = its your choice**

The word 'khamr' in Arabic only means 'wine' in it's informal noun form. There are many meanings to this word which are taken from various Arabic sentences. The short answer is that khamr is not a word which is restricted to the meaning of alcohol.

So therefore any such thing which fits the behaviour of what khmar does are haram in the general sense:

Also, note that khimar which is literally "veiler" or veil also shares a meaning with the word khamr.

Ikhmarah, Takhaamiruh, Khamira, Mukhaamiruh, khamar, khameer, khammara, khmr, khumaar

All fit the following meanings:

He concealed/conceived in his mind, Suspicion, Evil opinion, covers the intellect, intoxicates, empoisons, he became concealed, signifies a change of state, to put an additive to change the state, fermented, i have not found, he suffered or was affected with, the remains of intoxication.

You see how in urdu khameer, the agent that raises bread takes it's meaning from 'additive that changes the state'. khimaar is a cover, khamr is wine.

Khamar in the general sense is that which changes a state or hides the previous state and when applied to the mind it is meant in the negative sense in the poisonous sense.

Any mind altering drug is haram as per Qur'an ... do not follow the single word translation it is not enough to get the full meaning.

The beauty of Islam is that if practiced in its true essence, it cuts off all paths leading to sin, thus allowing one to literally tread the path of righteousness.

Hazrat Jabir bin 'Abdullah, Allah be please with him, said the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "If the larger dose of a thing causes intoxication, its small quantity is also unlawful."

This hadith basically verbalizes the common sense pertaining to Islam. If Islam is to be the 'perfect' religion, then it must not contain contradictions - hence in this matter, the doors leading to sin. By following the true Islam, one does not even consume any small quantity of a substance that would intoxicate them in a larger amount. If this was permissible in Islam, then it would no longer be considered the perfect religion. Because even if one did consume a substance in a small amount - whether it be cocaine, alcohol, marijuana, etc. - and did not get intoxicated, this would still leave the door open for them to continue down the path with sin.

But God has blessed us with common sense, and hopefully we are intelligent enough to decide between right and wrong. If any substance intoxicates you, leads you away from God, or is placed before God, then it is basically considered unlawful.
